After a short week to start Term 2, we are back in full swing.

On Friday last week, it was my pleasure to be with our Primary and Secondary school captains as they represented our whole college at the Doreen/Mernda community ANZAC service. Being so close to Easter, it was poignant to have Jesus’ words read out to a large community assembly.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.: John 15:13

I reflected on people who are image bearers of Jesus when they choose jobs where they risk their lives. Most notably, our service men and women, but also our police and emergency service workers, know they may have to make that ultimate commitment. It is right to honour their courage to put others’ wellbeing before their own safety.

Jesus’ sacrifice was of even more depth and consequence, as he not only died a horrific death, but he took on himself all the agony caused by our sinfulness, suffered our consequences and rose again to show that those sins and consequences were now gone if we believe in Him.

I was most impressed by the respect that our students showed as we considered Jesus’ sacrifice with a modified stations of the cross activity and ANZAC services across the college.

EY and Kinder Finish Times

From Monday, 5 May:

Early Years – Prep to Year 2 will return to their usual finish time of 3:15pm along with the rest of the Primary students.

Plenty Kids – will continue to finish at 3:00 pm for Possum group and 3:05 pm for Wallaby group.

Our experiment of changing finish times seems to have been effective. We now know that our car park works very well until Yan Yean Road clogs up around 3:35 pm. This is due to traffic from surrounding schools as well as early start tradies finishing their workday. Next year, we are considering the start/finish times to allow our families to clear the college before the congestion happens.

Last Day of Term 2 (Friday, 27 June)

This year, staff will be taking their student-free professional development week in what will be the last week of Term 2 for government schools (30 June – 4 July), and we will return with the government schools on the week starting Monday 21 July.

PVCC does not have the first Monday of each term for our PD training like government schools, so we have this week together. Next year, we are planning to reduce the student-free days to maximise our teaching time with students.

All Year 4 to Year 12 students (and their families) are expected to attend to celebrate the year and the achievements of their classmates.

Candidates Forum Cancelled

We apologise for the cancellation of the candidate’s forum that was to be hosted at the college on Wednesday night. The timing of the election near the school holidays made it difficult to find a time to meet.

Both the Liberal and Labor candidates, at late notice, were required to attend a party meeting. I would like to acknowledge the candidates standing for the Greens, Family First, People First and One Nation were ready, willing and able to attend. We regret that the community missed an opportunity to hear from them and to ask candidates questions.
