Welcome back to Term 2

We’re excited to welcome everyone back for Term 2, and what a beautiful start we’ve had! The sunshine and autumn weather have set the perfect tone for an energised return to school. It’s been fantastic to see students settling back into routines and engaging in their learning with enthusiasm. Whether in the classroom, out in the yard, or participating in co-curricular activities, there’s been a really positive buzz across the school. Thank you to all families for supporting a smooth return – we’re looking forward to a great term ahead, full of learning and connection.

Awareness Day

We were thrilled to recently host our annual Awareness Day, welcoming Grade 5 and 6 students from our local feeder primary schools to experience a day in the life at Kurnai College.

The event was a huge success, filled with fun, energy, and enthusiastic participation. Visiting students had the chance to explore a range of engaging secondary school activities, meet new faces, and get a real feel for what life at Kurnai is all about.

Our staff thoroughly enjoyed working with our future students, and it was wonderful to see such curiosity and excitement throughout the day.

A special thank you goes to our Year 7 student leaders, who were outstanding role models. Their support and leadership played a key role in the smooth and welcoming delivery of the day.

We can’t wait to see many of these young learners back at Kurnai in the years ahead!

Later that evening, we hosted our Parent Information evening that was really well supported by our community. We would like to thank all our potential families fro coming out and giving us the opportunity to promote our school as what we hope will be your school of choice.

A  big shout out to Erin Gruis (Year 7 Team Leader) and the Year 7 team for all their hard work over the duration of Awareness Day and evening.

Attitudes to School Survey

Every year, students across Victoria participate in the Attitudes to School Survey – and it’s that time again!

This important survey helps us understand how students feel about their learning, peers, and school environment. It gives students a voice and provides valuable insights that help us improve teaching and create a more supportive school community.

Who: Students in Years 7 to 10

When: From 12th May to 13th June

Why: To help shape a better school experience for every student

We encourage all students to take part honestly and thoughtfully. Their feedback truly makes a difference and will help guide positive changes across the school.

Kurnai Aspiring Athletes Program – VIS Excursion

A couple of weeks ago, our Kurnai Aspiring Athletes had the incredible opportunity to visit the Victorian Institute of Sport (VIS) – a world-class facility dedicated to developing elite sporting talent.

Students engaged in some high-quality presentations delivered by experts in the fields of sport science, nutrition, and athlete wellbeing. These sessions provided valuable insights into the mindset, discipline, and support systems required to succeed at the highest levels of sport.

We hope the visit was both inspiring and educational, giving our aspiring athletes a firsthand look at what it takes to reach their potential, both on and off the field. We’re proud of the way our students represented Kurnai and look forward to seeing how this experience shapes their sporting journeys.

Advanced Learning Program Testing

We were excited to recently host the Advanced Learning Program (ALPs) testing sessions for prospective 2026 Year 7 students who are hoping to gain entry into Kurnai’s select entry program.

It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic and capable young learners step up for the opportunity. The level of interest in the program continues to grow, and we are proud to offer a pathway that challenges and extends our academically high-achieving students.

Staff were incredibly impressed with the focus, maturity, and conduct of all participants throughout the testing sessions. It’s clear that the future is bright, and we look forward to welcoming some of these students into our ALPs community next year.

Well done to all who took part!
