Year 5

Education Week

Education Week

Last Monday, the year 5s had an exciting morning for Education Week. Our parents/guardians came and played fraction games with us. The parents all had a wonderful time, helping their kids and using their knowledge of fractions. Most of us were fortunate enough to have a guardian or parent there, so we could share our love and understanding of fractions with them! Some of the activities we did were, fraction number lines, memory fraction games, winner keeps all cards, and fraction pictionary. These games helped us recap what we have been learning this term. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to play these games, and spend some time with our parents.

STEAM

This year in STEAM the Year 5s are making solar powered boats. We have learnt about buoyancy. We did an experiment which involved floating everyday objects like foil, mandarins, and some other objects of our choosing. To branch off, we also watched many videos about renewable energy to prepare us for the creation process. We drew individual blueprints which we took to our production groups to make a team blueprint to look at when we build the boat. We are currently adding edits to the guides and we are having loads of fun!

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday  21 May, CPS celebrated National Simultaneous Storytime. It is held by the Australian Library and Information Association and every year, a picture book written by an Australian author and illustrated by an Australian illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre- schools and childcare centres across the country. This is now its 25th successful year. National Simultaneous Story time is a colourful, vibrant event that is aimed to promote the value of reading and literacy. The book is always a children’s picture book and is age appropriate for foundations to Year 6. This year's book's name was The Truck Cat and is about a cat named Tinka and an owner named Yacoub who was a truck driver. Tinka and Yacoub traveled around Australia delivering food as well as going on many adventures. Other humans didn't always understand Yacoub, in result, Tinka was Yacoub's only friend until they stumbled on Mari's Bakery and found a home and family.
