Mathematics Open Morning

On Monday morning we opened our classrooms to our parents and special visitors. We played a variety of our favourtite Math warm up games, practicing our addition, subtraction and place value skills. It was a fantastic chance to practice using a range of resources to solve problems such as numberlines and math drawings.

It was wonderful to see so many families joining in with our learning.

National Simulatious Storytime 2025

To celebrate ALIA National Simultaneous Storytime 2025, we tuned in to hear the story The Truck Cat with 2,204,658 participants across Australia. We were on the edge of our seats as we heard about an adventurous cat who went missing. The story nicely tied into the Education Week theme ‘Celebration of Cultures’. The main character Yacoub was missing his home country and feeling lonely, only speaking another language. Luckily his cat Tinka led him to Mari. Mari spoke the same language as Yacoub and they began to build a beautiful life together.

This term, the Year One students have been listening to stories to find the key elements to retell to others. They have been focusing on including information about the main characters, setting, the problem and the solution.

Here are some examples from the students:

"The problem was Tinka ran off and Yacoub was lonely. The solution was Yacou found Tinka and he got married." - Gracie

"The problem was the cat followed the butterfly and Yacoub felt lonely. The solution was she found Mari and everyday she would feed her fish. But Yacoub was sad. He smelled something familiar. He found the cat. He felt happy. Now Yacoub talked to someone. Finally he had a family." - Maddi

"The problem was Tinka got lost. Tinka followed a butterfly and went on the road and was so close to getting hit by a car and no one talked to Yacoub. Mari saw Tinka and went to the bakery. Yacoub was no longer lonely because he had a friend." - Edward

Education Week Activities

Throughout the week we talked about the theme of this year's Education Week 'Celebration of Cultures' by sharing stories of our own. We drew on our learning from Term 1, learning about the different countries and cultures our classmates come from and some of the different celebrations. We shared different ways to say hello and made a display for our classrooms.

Kind Regards,
