Hello again everyone! It has been another jam-packed fortnight of learning here at Roxburgh Homestead.
Education Week:
To celebrate Education Week, our school has had lots of special activities to recognise this yearly celebration. Thank you to all of the families who have attended and supported our Book Fair. I know my daughter loved visiting the one at her school and it is always great to get new reading material in the hands of our little people. The funds generated from this fair also support our school programs, so it is a worthwhile endeavour all round.
Speaking of reading, another part of our Education Week was the National Simultaneous Story Time Day which took place on Wednesday. At 12pm, all students across the school joined me to read the story of ‘The Truck Cat’. If you missed it – you can see this story here: https://youtu.be/FXLYRmrJ_8Y
Finally, we wrapped up the week with a celebration of all our wonderful ES staff with our special ES Celebration Day. This was an opportunity to acknowledge the fantastic ES Team we have at Roxburgh Homestead Primary School – something I consider a real asset and strength within our school. Whether it is our wonderful administration staff or our hardworking teachers’ aides, join me to take a moment to thank them for all that they do.
National Reconciliation Week:
Our special weeks continue next week with National Reconciliation Week. The theme this year is Bridging Now to Next and our students will have the opportunity to reflect on the ongoing connection between our past, present and future.
School Photos – Survey:
As you may have a noticed already, I will often lean on the community to better understand how we can improve and if there is an opportunity to do things better. Once our school photos are released in the coming weeks, we will be sending out a survey for families to provide feedback on how they view the quality and value for money being offered by our provider. Look out for this – I’d appreciate you taking time to complete it so I can get a feel for how our community feels about the current school photo service they are receiving.
Resolving Problems at School:
I wanted to bring all families up to speed with a focus we have been having with students, particularly in Grade 3-6. I’ve been speaking to all students in those year levels over the past week about the importance of seeking out our staff in situations where there is a social problem, or they are feeling unsafe. Please join me in encouraging your children to seek out help from an adult when they need it, and to not escalate situations by getting other students or siblings involved for further confrontations. I’ve seen firsthand how hard our staff work to investigate, follow up with and support students who are experiencing problems in the yard or the classroom, so please direct your students to discuss their concerns with a trusted staff member should these circumstances arise. Like they come to school to learn to read and write, all of our students are also learning how to behave, which also means they will not always get it right. Some students have more challenges in this area than others and may need support from our team to navigate problems with their friends. So far, this message has been well-received by our students, and I am confident we can continue maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students across our school.
That’s all for another newsletter! Wishing you all a safe and relaxing weekend.
