Literacy

So far this term students in Levels Prep-2 have been learning about the comprehension strategy of Questioning. The Level 2-6 students have been busy practising the reading comprehension strategy of Monitoring. Monitoring is a strategy that ensures a reader is understanding what they are reading and makes them access their metacognitive skills (thinking about thinking). Questioning is when readers ask questions before, during and after reading.

All DPS students have taken part in a whole school writing task based on a picture prompt. This gives teachers a chance to moderate and assess student achievement in writing.

Coming up in the second half of term, students will be recording and practising their speeches for the DPS Public Speaking Competition. This gives students an opportunity to present in front of their peers on a topic they are passionate about, demonstrating their emerging speaking skills.

A friendly reminder that all students in Years 3-6 have access to E-platform. This gives them access to thousands of e-books and audiobooks. Students can access their account at school and at home using their individual login details.
