EAL Term 2 Update
This term in EAL, students are engaging in all the activities with enthusiasm and energy.
Each lesson starts with circle time, focusing on practicing and building conversational English, as well as engaging in polite dialogue when asking questions. In addition, students work on their pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence construction, and sentence expansion using Who, What, Where, When, and Why prompts, often based on describing images.
Across all year levels, students started the term by creating a Holiday Mind Map. This activity helped them practice their speaking and listening skills, followed by focusing on a specific holiday event and writing about what they saw, ate, smelt, touched, and heard.
In Year 6, the focus has been on incorporating vocabulary related to the Canberra Camp, while Year 5 students have explored key terms connected to Sovereign Hill.
Students across all year levels have also been learning about different verbs, nouns, and adjectives through hands-on activities such as matching, sorting and creating verbal and written sentences.
I am very impressed with their hard work and commitment to improving their English speaking, reading and writing skills. As the term continues, we will further explore vocabulary through topics such as Australian animals, weather, feelings, and high-frequency words.
