Principal's  Report

Dear Parents and Friends of DPS

We have had had a great start to Term with many exciting things happening acrtoss the entire school.

On Thursday 24 April we held the annual school ANZAC service which was a special morning for the community. Again, it was great to see so many families attend to pay respect. Mrs Coumaros (Level 2 teacher) and Wendy McGeary (Education Support) did a fantastic job in organising the day. On Tuesday 29 April, a group of Level 5 students led by Mrs Keen (Level 5 Teacher) attended the Templestowe ANZAC service for schools. This was a moving experience for the students and staff who attended.

Year 6 students attended Canberra Camp in week 2 led by Mrs Corfios, ably supported by Nathan Watson, Marissa Curtolo, Michaela George, Martin Spinks, Rana El-bay, Mary Scopas and Ledi Phillips. The students had an incredible experience in what was a jam-packed week. Camp is always a rewarding experience for both students and staff, and I’d like to acknowledge the commitment of all who attend camps in stepping away from their families to provide this opportunity for our students.

A huge Thank you to the Parents and Friends group who ran a very successful Mother's Day stall, we hope all Mums and special friends enjoyed Mother's Day and enjoyed their special gifts.

Teachers have started preparing for Semester Reports which will be released later this Term, followed by Student-Led Conferences where you will have the opportunity to talk with your child's class teacher about their progress.

In some exciting news, we would like to congratulate Mr Wood-Burgess and his partner Ellen on the safe arrival of their daughter Mabel. We are looking forward to meeting her!

I'd like to take the opportunity to remind all parents that at school, we strive to provide a safe space for all students. At times, your child will share things that happen at school that may upset them regarding interactions between them and another student. If you have any concerns, we would like you to comminucate these concerns with your classroom teacher so that we can follow up on your concerns approriately. At no point should any parent engage in conversation with another student regarding schoolyard matters.

Education Week was a real highlight with students taking part in lots of activities celebrating cultural diversity. Thank you to the Education Week Committee, Miss Pike, Miss White, Mr O'Bryan and Mr Spinks for your planning and organisation. At Friday's Assembly, we heard from lots of students who shared their highlights. After Assembly the children returned to their classrooms to share foods from their cultures. A special thanks to all families for supporting this day, a memorable event for all in involved.

We are looking forward to a fantastic end to term, with many exciting things to come!

Determination      Pride     Success
