Level One

The Level One students this term have been exploring the concept of addition and developing fluency with adding numbers to ten. They have been introduced  to a variety of strategies to develop their understanding and skills including using number lines, concrete material, counting on and drawing pictures. These strategies have supported their understanding of number relationships and helped to build their confidence in solving simple worded problems.

This week the Level One students have written their speeches for the Public Speaking Competition. They began by choosing one of the listed topics and planning their ideas. Over the next few weeks, the students will practise their speeches focussing on using expressive voice and eye contact to engage their audience. This experience will help build their speaking and listening skills, as well as their confidence in sharing their ideas in front of others.

As part of Education Week, the Level One students used play dough, straws, cardboard and others materials to design and create their own sculptures as part of a hands-on learning experience. Through this creative activity, they explored basic building techniques, experiment with shapes and structures, and used their imaginations to bring their ideas to life. As they manipulated the materials, students developed fine motor skills and learnt about balance, stability, and design. This playful approach to construction encouraged problem-solving in a fun and engaging way.
