Principal's Message

We were very fortunate to have Michelle from the Montrose Township Group come out to our assembly last week to present the Ready and Resilient videos to our school community.
There are 4 videos in total that have been produced for the Montrose community to help prepare for a variety of emergency events. Each of the videos feature local Montrose residents, including the 2 school principals and children from both Billanook and Montrose primary schools.
Please take the time to watch the videos below (less than 10 minutes in total) to ensure you are prepared for future weather events.

Local Excursions
It has been pleasing to see most of our year levels have ventured down to the Montrose Township area this year to participate in a local excursion.
Earlier this year, our Year 6 children participated in their school leaders’ course at the Montrose Township meeting room. Our Year 4 children visited the Library for a science incursion. Our Year 3 and 6 children have also visited the Library and our Year 1/2 children had an Easter break up party at the Montrose Recreation Reserve.
Where possible we want our learning to extend to the local community and we will continue to search for curriculum links within our local community.
Inter School Sport
It was wonderful to see the excitement as our Year 5 and 6 children were transported to their inter school sport events this week. The children were participating in a round robin day playing either football, soccer, netball or teeball.
From all reports our Billanook children demonstrated their excellent sportsmanship and had a great day of sport. Congratulations to our netballers and footballers who won their days and have got through to the next round of competition.

We will be holding a Prep Information afternoon for prospective families on Tuesday 27 May. We are encouraging all prospective families to attend to learn about our great school. For the afternoon session, we are inviting prospective families to bring their child to school to participate in activities with our Foundation teachers, head to the art room for an art activity, learn some Auslan and test their fundamental motor skills through our FMS program.
We will have student leaders in attendance and our school choir performing. All are welcome for what will be a great introduction to Billanook.

The Open Afternoon is part of our Education Week celebrations. This year we are trialing having the Open Afternoon during school hours so families can see our children in action.
All families are welcome to attend. All classrooms from Year 1 – 6 will be open and will be completing an activity from this year’s Education Week them of Celebration of Cultures.
Our Foundation classrooms will be holding a special Education Week activity as they have arranged a Grandparents and Special Friends open morning on Wednesday 21 May at 10am.
Enrolments for 2026
We have had a lot of interest in enrolling at Billanook for 2026. It is great that Billanook remains a popular choice for our families and the wider community. It is helpful for our future planning if we can get a clear picture of how many children will be enrolled for the following year.
