On Wednesday 23rd April SCSC held a whole school assembly to commemorate ANZAC Day.
We were honoured to be joined by Wing Commander Daryll Topp, who shared his personal reflections and led a moving one minute silence. This year marks 110 years since the Gallipoli campaign and reminds us of the importance of remembering our history and showing respect to those who have given so much for our freedom.
The assembly was also an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of students at our swimming and athletics carnivals as well as those who have demonstrated outstanding learning behaviours in Term 1.
Thank you to our Sienna Mc., Riley C. and Lylah J. for representing the SCSC community and for speaking at the ANZAC Day dawn service.
Their leadership and commitment to serving our community make us proud.
On Thursday 8th May our senior girls football team competed in the Barwon Secondary Senior Girls Football Competition.
Despite being a player down, the girls showed incredible determination and teamwork. They won both of their round games, defeated SEDA College in a tough semi-final, and went on to dominate the grand final with a 45–15 win over Geelong.
We’re thrilled to share that they are now the Barwon and Bellarine Division Champions!
The day started will plenty of hope and optimism from the boys as the match ups for our group games were set against Northern Bay and Bellarine.
We came out firing against Northern Bay slamming on 5 goals in the first half and never looking back. Christian Brimmer slotted a goal of the day contender and there were winners all over the park. A 66-point victory for SCSC.
The second game was a chance to progress to the semi-finals against Bellarine. After super competitive first half the boys managed to work their way to 15-point lead. After some nervous moments in the second half potentially due to some questionable coaching decisions the boys held on for a 10-point win and we were thru to the Semi Final.
The semi saw us face Lara and the boys came to play kicking 3 goals whilst keeping them goalless in the first half. The boys continued their good work in the second half kicking another two goals to book a spot in the final. The boys played a great brand of attacking free flowing footy.
Finally, we faced off with Grovedale in the final. The first half we had all the play but couldn’t make it count on the scoreboard. Grovedale kicked a goal after the siren in the first half to take a 6-point lead. Again, we had our chances early in the first half but couldn’t convert and 3 quick goals to Grovedale saw them victorious in a very competitive game.
Despite falling just short it was a ripping day, and all the players represented the school extremely well lead by Ethan Butcher as a skipper. Iggy S. was our leading goal kicker for the day with our best players in no particular order - Sam and Josh V., Ethan W., Alex B., Jarrah B., Curtis B. and Ethan B.
On Thursday, 1st May, Jack H. proudly represented SCSC at the State Swimming Finals held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre. Competing in two highly contested events—the 13-Year-Old Boys 50m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke—Jack delivered standout performances that earned him two State titles.
In his first race of the day, the 50m Breaststroke, Jack powered through the water to finish with an impressive time of 35.07 seconds, claiming the State title by a decisive 0.28-second margin.
Later, in the ultra-competitive 50m Freestyle, Jack once again rose to the occasion. With explosive speed and determination, he touched the wall at 27.83 seconds, securing his second gold medal of the day.
Jack’s outstanding efforts have made him a Double State Champion, and we couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations, Jack! Your hard work, dedication, and sportsmanship are an inspiration to the entire SCSC community.
