In the classroom

Foundation - Grade 1
During the first few weeks of Term 2 the Foundation and Grade 1 class have been busy building their sounds knowledge. It is incredible to see the words the Foundations are now able to read and write. The grade ones have been learning what a homophone is and can now tell us that it is 2 words that sounds the same but look different and mean different things. In numeracy we have been looking at location with the Foundations who can now tell us which way is left and which way is right. The grade ones are looking at making and writing numbers to 100 using MAB, and place value charts. As a class we have been learning about the Church and how we can be like Jesus, we visited the Church and learnt about all the special things at the front that Father Jophin uses.
Grade 1 / 2
The 1/2 students have made fantastic progress in the Literacy, they are enjoying engaging with the different activities in InitialLit writing words on whiteboards, playing games and singing songs about the sounds and words we are learning continues to be popular.
Numeracy has focused on reading and writing three-digit numbers, we have looked at how these numbers are made up and writing them in expanded form and ordering numbers on a number line.
Grade 3/4 Highlights
We have been busy in the lead up to Mother's Day, writing special letters to deliver on Mother's Day.
This term we have been enjoying reading Off We Go Around Australia by Roland Harvey. His amazing illustrations and humorous story telling has been enjoyed by the class.
The Grade 4's have been heading off for Friday Winter Sport - lots of learning about sportsmanship, being part of a team, winning humbly and being gracious in defeat.
This term we are focussing on improving our handwriting.
Grade 5/6 Camp
Last week the 5/6 students travelled to Anglesea for a 3 day camp. It was an amazing Camp filled with lots of fun and adventure. The students were fabulous. They all participated in rock climbing, obstacle courses, and archery.
The biggest highlight from all the students was experiencing surfing. The weather was sunny, the instructors were amazing, and new surfing language and movements was taught and practiced. With tired bodies, we adventured back to camp accompanied by a long coastal bush walk.
The 10 metre Zip Line showed fear in some campers. Let's just say ...the students were much braver than the teachers! The students were very courageous stepping out of their comfort zone.
In the evenings, campfire stories were shared and a cheeky competition between the girls and boys took place! Trivia time, air hockey, table tennis and air golf were the activities on the agenda. It was a close call.... the boys won by 1 point!
Overall, it was a fabulous camp. The meals were amazing; the students had loads of fun and everyone enjoyed being with their friends.
Grade 6
This term, the Grade 6s have continued with the Ochre Education program.
In Literacy, students have been reading the novel The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett, which is about a pair of sisters, Marcelle, and Coco, who have met a blind soldier who loves to tell them stories. Students have continued completing spelling and learning new vocabulary. Our writing focus this term is Fables, giving complete creative control for students to choose their own morals. We have started looking at the features of a Fable and will continue to develop our understanding of planning to write a Fable of our own.
In Maths, we have started our unit on Operations. So far, we have developed our numeracy vocabulary and worked towards solving equations that have the operations of multiplication, addition, and subtraction. Students have been implementing the order of Operations when solving their equations in their books independently.
