Foundation
Students have focussed on pitch, dynamics (loud and soft) and dynamics (fast or slow). The story of The Three Little Pigs has been used to practice and demonstrate high and low voices. Loud and soft sounds were also explored through the song What’s That Sound?
Students also continued to play the games Simon Says and Rhythm Detective. They also began to practise their dance songs for the concert.
Year 1
Students have been focussing on beat and rhythm, and pitch and melody. They have examined stepwise ascending or descending patterns in the song Ipsy Wipsy Spider. Students have created their own composition based around the soundscape The Water Cycle. They have also been introduced to contrasting musical sections (verse and chorus) in the song Wiggle and Sway. Students will also continue to play the games Simon Says and Rhythm Detective. They will also begin to practise their dance songs for the concert.
Year 2
Students have focussed focus on pitch and melody. They have created two and three note melodies, and performed folk dances. Students have also created sound symbols and improvised sound from everyday objects. For example, students have sung the three note melody song If You Want, and moved to the sound of Puppet Music. Students have also begun to practise their dance songs for the concert.
Year 3
Students have been exploring the concept of constant underlying sound in a musical piece - drone music. For example, they have examined drone sounds from bagpipes and the Indian instrument the tambour. In Drama studies, students have been involved in Drama exercises such as Circle Move and Group Shapes. Drama skills covered have been be non-verbal communication, concentration, group cooperation, spatial awareness, levels of movement, timing, quick thinking, talking and listening. Students have also begun to practise their dance songs for the concert.
Year 4
Students have focussed on pitch, melody and harmony and explore sound through musical pictures. As an example, they have built an arrangement using beats and riffs to the song Hot Summer Night. Students have also sung different vocal parts in the arrangement of the song There’s a Part for Everybody. They have also created images to show moods, feelings and emotions to the mood music song Face the Music. Students have also begun to practise their dance song for the concert.
Year 5 / 6
Students have focused on Body and Beat this term. They have explored choreography, water sounds and body percussion. Students have created group choreography about indigenous culture, and composed performances involving crescendo and decrescendo. As examples, students have created and performed a song using water sounds and use body percussion, movement and chanting to demonstrate body music. They have also practised their concert performance.
School Concert
BRPS concert will occur on August 29th at Robert Blackwood Hall. An event has been created per year level. Please read and consent via a COMPASS note before the 27th of June, 2025.
Our overall theme for the concert is Dancing in the Decades. Our student decade explorers will guide us through the notable songs from each decade.
Each year level will perform dance songs from the following decades:

Rehearsals have already begun and will continue up until the concert.
