The Stand-Up Project at Our School
Our school is taking meaningful steps toward building a stronger, more respectful culture through our involvement in The Stand-Up Project (SUP) – an award-winning program that reduces discrimination, harassment, and bullying through student-designed and delivered Upstander Training.
SUP places a strong emphasis on student voice, agency, and leadership, and takes a whole-school approach to building empathy, respect, and inclusion. As part of the program’s launch, all Year 5 and 6 students took part in the initial learning phase, exploring key concepts around respectful relationships, the bystander effect, and strategies for becoming Upstanders – individuals who take safe, positive action when they see unfair or harmful behaviour.
Following this, a group of SUP student leaders were selected to take on a deeper leadership role. These students are now collaborating with staff and peers to prepare and co-facilitate Upstander Training sessions for younger students, their teachers, and even their families. Their efforts are helping to embed a culture of respect and student-led change across the entire school.
Through their training, students are learning about the drivers and impacts of discrimination and bullying, and identifying ways to support others and promote safe, inclusive behaviour. Their leadership is not only building confidence and skills but also having a meaningful impact on the broader school community.
