The Resilience Project

TRP in Foundation

This week in The Resilience Project, the Foundation students looked at Empathy.

We learned about recognising emotions in others and explored how empathy involves being kind and helpful, showing that we care about how others feel.

Through engaging activities and discussion, we discovered that we practise empathy by being kind, compassionate and helpful to others when they are having a hard time or feeling sad.

Developing empathy helps us to identify, understand and feel what another person is feeling. When we practise empathy by doing something kind for someone else, our brain releases oxytocin. This results in an increase in our self-esteem, confidence, energy levels, positivity and overall happiness.

Here are some wonderful work samples:

Try it at home family activity - 'HAPPY HELPERS'

WHAT TO DO:

As a family, discuss what each of the following feelings would look and sound like:

Sad, Angry, Frustrated, Annoyed.

  • Talk about what you could do or say to someone who was feeling this way. How could you help them to feel better? Come up with statements you could use (e.g., Are you okay? " or " Can I help you?) or other creative ideas like telling jokes or making them laugh.
  • Then, talk about how it would feel to help someone feel better.
  • You could even talk about a time when someone has helped a member of the family feel better.

Have a wonderful weekend.
