Student Parent Teacher Conferences

This week, we held our Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences. These conferences are a valuable opportunity to strengthen the partnership between home and school. These conversations provide an opportunity to celebrate student progress, discuss learning goals, and identify any areas where additional support might be helpful. By working together, parents, carers, and teachers can ensure that each child’s individual needs are met and that their learning journey stays on track. Attending interviews helps parents stay informed, engaged, and connected to their child’s education, ultimately contributing to improved outcomes and greater confidence for students. We want to take this opportunity to thank our parents for their ongoing support.  Our attendance for these was at 75%, which whilst we are pleased with this percentage, we always aim to improve.

Staff Professional Learning - Reports

We mentioned in last week's newsletter that the Semester Reports will look a little different this year due to the 2.0 updates to the Victorian Curriculum. This week, the staff unpacked the revised format with our teachers and gathered some feedback. In addition to the Department's requirement that schools provide parents with curriculum scores for various learning areas, our reports will also give parents and carers some further insights into their child as a learner. The revised reports will also provide parents and carers with a clearer understanding of what their child has learnt and make suggestions about areas for future learning that will be supported in the classroom, as well as potentially at home .

Home Learning

We are relaunching home learning for students in F-6 throughout next week. This was a topic discussed at the Student-Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday. Each student will be provided with a laminated Home Learning matrix (as per below) explaining the various options available for home learning. Students will also be provided with a satchel or folder which can be used to bring books home and store their matrix. We will also supply students with their personal login details for the various online subscriptions they have access to, as we acknowledge that some families may want to use digital resources.

Our F-2 students will bring home a Little Learners Love Literacy (LLLL) Reading Journal to track their reading. They will also have access to the LLLL online library, which will allow parents to provide multiple exposures for their child by reading the same books at home.

Our students in Years 3-6 are encouraged to track their home learning using a Google Form, accessed via a QR code on their Home Learning matrix. Home Learning is not going to be assessed or recorded by teachers, so families need not stress. That said, as little as 15 minutes of reading at home each day can have a significant positive impact on your child's ability to read and foster a love of life-long learning.
