Get Set and Reconnect in Term 2 and SWPBS

It has been a GREAT first 2 weeks back at Greenhills Primary School. To help us all feel happy and ready to learn, every class has started the term with our special ‘Get Set and Reconnect’ focuses. These build on from our first 3 weeks of Term 1, and show the importance we place on our connections with each other, setting up routines for success and following our school values and expectations.

These activities help us feel calm, safe, and connected with our teachers and classmates. At Greenhills, we care a lot about being kind, respectful, and working together as a team – that’s what makes our school such a great place to be!

Over the first 2 weeks of term, we’re focusing on building strong friendships and relationships. Here’s how we’re doing that:

  • Showing Respect: Our teachers model how to treat others kindly and fairly. We all try to be respectful to each other so that everyone feels happy and safe.
  • Checking In: Each day, our teachers check in with students individually and in small groups to see how we’re feeling and if we need any help. These check ins are about how they are feeling at school in general, academically, emotionally and socially.
  • Classroom Rules and routines: We’re also going over our classroom rules to make sure we all know how to be safe, connected, and responsible (following our SWPBS framework). That way, everyone can learn and have fun together.

Our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework provides our staff and students with clear expectations for us all to teach and follow. These are evidenced based and support a safe and happy learning environment. We focus on catching students doing the right thing, celebrating this through praise and Gazillions. We teach the behaviours we expect to see and continually give feedback around these behaviours.

When students do not display our expected behaviours, we provide prompt corrective feedback and teach what is expected of them. In our upcoming newsletters, we will include more information around our SWPBS approaches.

We are lucky at Greenhills to have such a great school community, which means that our teachers are able to focus on the positive aspects of student behaviour and very rarely need to correct student behaviour. Our teachers attempt to give 4 positive feedback examples to 1 corrective example and we do this easily inside our classrooms.

We know this term will be full of fun, learning, and new friendships.
