Hola! Namaste! Bonjour! Nǐ hǎo! Marhaba! Sawatdee! Yia sas! Konichiwa! Cioa! Xin chào! Salam! Apa kabar! Kia ora! Assalam-o-Alaikum! G'day!
We have been incredibly busy being creative and producing wonderful pieces of artwork this term. Here's a snapshot of what we did in Visual Arts in Term 1.
Our Preps talked about colours and had fun identifying primary colours in drawings, paintings and their own work. They learnt which two primary colours to mix to make a secondary colour. Our Preps described different kinds of lines that they already knew and learnt to draw new ones in their artwork. They talked about shapes and incorporated shapes when making a collage of their house. Our Preps had fun drawing with crayons, coloured pencils, coloured textas and black markers and were super excited to paint with poster paints in primary and secondary colours. Check out their amazing Visual Arts journey so far!
The 1/2s explored 5 Art Elements this term and the Art Elements are: Line, Colour, Form, Texture and Value. They learnt what the term 'abstract' looks like and studied the works of Jasper Johns and Sonia Delaunay before creating their own abstract drawing and collage. They were super excited during our construction lessons as they got to make their own squishy people. The 1/2s learnt to create light and shadow for their cityscape pictures by blending and smudging oil pastels. Here are some photos of their work:

The 3/4s got to polish their drawing skills this term. They learnt how to 'doodle' as a creative form and to create 2 layer compositions - a cityscape and Rainbow Village. The 3/4s learnt how to create implied textures by using mixed media (i.e. oil pastels and black paint). First, they made scratchboards by creating the background pictures/designs with oil pastels in bright colours. Then, the 3/4s painted their background with black poster paint. Finally, once the black paint was dry, they scraped the paint to reveal the picture or etched the design they wanted. The 3/4s also learnt to draw curved, contour and converging lines. They really enjoyed their mindfulness lesson in blind contour line drawing, which was to draw without lifting their pencil and without looking at their drawing. Talk about a challenge! Take a look at their incredible artwork below.

Meanwhile, the 5/6s too worked on their drawing skills. They created and completed a great amount of artworks, such as symmetrical creatures using their names, wire scupltures and scratchboards. Before the end of this term, the 5/6s learnt how to converge lines to create depth and perspectives. Below are their work already displayed along the corridor outside the Visual Arts room and Library. I extend my invitation to all families to come and have a look sometime in Term 2.

Thank you for reading and have an awesome Term 1 break!
