Deputy Principal Report

As the first term comes to an end, there is an important term worth focusing on, and that is accountability. For our students, this means taking responsibility for both their learning and behaviour. It is a key skill that helps students succeed in school and in life.

Students who take responsibility for their learning, strive to do their best and ask for help when they need it. It is not enough to simply attend; to gain the most out of their learning, students need to be motivated, ready to participate and ready to work. We are ensuring our students have a better understanding of what accountability in learning looks like for their benefit.

Accountability is also important when it comes to behaviour. When students understand how their actions affect themselves and others, they are more likely to make good choices. By taking responsibility for their behaviour, students help create a safe and respectful learning environment for everyone.

At Evans, we have three behaviour expectations: to be Respectful, Trustworthy and Motivated. These expectations guide everything we do at school and help every student thrive.

Respectful:

Respect is essential in everything we do. When students are accountable for their behaviour, they learn to respect other people’s feelings, ideas, and rights. This helps create a friendly, kind, and supportive atmosphere at school.

Trustworthy:

We care about the physical and emotional safety of all our students. When students take responsibility for their actions, they help make sure everyone feels safe by making the right choices in their behaviour and focusing on their learning.

Motivated:

Our motto is ‘Strive to Thrive’ and we want our students to take ownership of their education. Being accountable for their learning helps students remain motivated to try their best at all times – a skill that will benefit them in the world outside the school gates.

It is important to speak openly about how important accountability is, both in learning and behaviour. By working together, we aim for all students to grow into respectful, trustworthy and motivated individuals.

Thank you for your continued support in making our school a positive and caring place for everyone. Let’s keep inspiring and supporting our students to take responsibility for their learning and actions, so they can have a bright future.
