From the Principal

And just like that… we’ve come to the end of another fabulous year at MPS.

As I reflect on the many achievements and happy moments at Murrumbeena, I find myself incredibly grateful to be leading such a connected and friendly school community.

Yesterday, we enjoyed the Year 6 graduation assembly in the morning and the celebratory ceremony in the evening. There were tears of happiness from parents in the audience as they were no doubt reflecting on how quickly the years have flown by. Perhaps the tears were from those who’ve been involved in the school for well over a dozen years and now their youngest child is moving on from primary school and into their next chapter. To our beautiful parents, thank you for supporting our school and working with us to educate these incredible students. You’ve raised very capable young people. We know they’ll be fine as they move forward as they have the MPS spirit in them.

To our graduating year 6 students, thank you. This has been one of the most calmest ‘end of year’ we’ve experienced in a long time and it’s thanks to the leadership and values you’ve continued to show which has set the tone for our younger students.

2024

As this is the final newsletter for 2024

I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of Mrs Sewell, the staff and myself, to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday with your family and friends.

We also wish any students and their families moving to new schools in 2025 all the very best for the future and thank you for your support and involvement at MPS.

STAFF FAREWELL

Every year we welcome new staff members and farewell others. To our fabulous teachers who are leaving us, we’d like to say a huge thank you for the energy and commitment you’ve shown in your teaching and your passion towards ensuring your students are well educated and looked after socially and emotionally.

All the very best as you further your career opportunities.

Thank you to: Mr Ali Demirtas, Miss Candice Nassim and Miss Natasha Williams.

To our staff who are enjoying leave to travel or to start families, we thank you and look forward to seeing you back at school in the near future: Mr Mitch Houston, Miss Jade Marquis and Miss Teagan Laskey.

SCHOOL CAPTAINS

Throughout the year, our 2024 School Captains (Harry, Lily, Luca and Heer) have modelled exemplary standards and been an inspiration to our students. It has been wonderful to watch them grow their relationship skills, not just individually but also as a team.

We have a tradition here at MPS where the previous year’s captains attend the Year 6 graduation to share with our graduates their perspectives on what to look forward to when they move to secondary school and to offer some words of advice. Thank you to our 2023 captain Akshaj S and vice captain Alfie K who had the year 6’s nodding their heads in agreement and awe as they listened to their speeches.

2025 School Captains

After a comprehensive process, our 2025 School Captains have been appointed and were introduced to the school at the graduation assembly.

We would like to congratulate the following students:

School Captains: Dhyey D and Lauren KF

Vice Captains: Xavier R and Ella G

I’m sure they will heed the advice offered by the current captains at the assembly and be outstanding in their leadership roles.  We look forward to working with you next year.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION

Every year I am in awe of the maturity and confidence of our year 6 students which is always evident at graduation night, and last night’s ceremony was exceptional. The students were a credit to their teachers and parents as they performed and sang with gusto and spoke eloquently.

Thank you to the parents who organised the food, the disco and the decorating of the hall to create the celebratory atmosphere.  The students couldn’t have been happier.

HOTHAM COMMUNITY SPIRIT AND LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Honourable Clare O’Neil Federal Member for Hotham attended our graduation assembly to present the Hotham Community Spirit and Leadership award to the student who has consistently displayed leadership in various fields.

The award was presented to Lily Z of 6K a worthy winner!
