Principal's Report
End of Year Message
As the end of the year approaches, I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on my first nine months at Macedon Primary School. It has been a pleasure to join such a vibrant school community, steeped in tradition and surrounded by the natural beauty of the Macedon Ranges.
From day one, I have felt welcomed by our students, staff, and parents. Our students are remarkable—open to learning, respectful of each other, and proud of their school. The sense of community here is special, with parents generously giving their time to support the school through classroom volunteering, working bees, excursions, and camps.
Over the past three terms, I’ve enjoyed working with our staff to make meaningful progress in several areas. We’ve focused on differentiation to ensure learning meets the needs of each student. We've also worked on incorporating student feedback to create engaging lessons and explored ways to improve communication with parents, helping to strengthen the connection between school and home. These efforts will continue to evolve and be embedded across the school in 2025.
This term, our school review process has been a significant focus. I’ve appreciated the opportunity to receive feedback from the community, which has helped us understand what is most valued and where we can grow. Based on this feedback, we are already making some changes, including expanding the Junior School Council to include representatives from across all year levels and exploring ways to better gather and act on feedback from students and families.
Looking ahead to 2025, we have an exciting and busy year planned:
- School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS): We will be rolling out this program to refine and embed our school values while setting clear expectations for student behaviour.
- Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS): Led by Sue Erwin, this initiative will help us meet the mental health needs of our students through a comprehensive and well-supported approach.
- New Facilities: Construction will begin on our inclusive playground and outdoor learning area, and we will power up the ECOshed—exciting additions to our school environment.
- New Language Program: We are thrilled to introduce French as our new language, giving students the opportunity for regular, engaging language lessons.
- New Staff: We look forward to welcoming several new staff members who will bring fresh expertise and complement our incredible team.
- School Review and Strategic Plan: Term 1 will see us finalizing our school review and establishing a strategic plan to guide the school’s direction over the next four years.
As we reflect on the achievements of 2024 and look forward to 2025, I am excited about what lies ahead. Thank you to everyone—students, parents, and staff—for your contributions to making this year such a success.
I wish you all a safe and restful holiday season, and I look forward to welcoming you back on January 29, 2025, for another fantastic year at Macedon Primary School.
Warm regards,
Andrew Bloomfield
