Assistant Principal's Report

2024 Highlights

As 2024 comes to an end, let’s reflect on the incredible year we’ve experienced together as a school community.

At Whitehorse Primary School, our students have once again showcased their exceptional academic abilities across all grade levels. These achievements are a testament to the dedication and hard work of both our students and teachers.

Our students have excelled in a range of extracurricular activities, including competing in Hoop Time, Interschool Sports, ICAS academic assessments, and the Victorian Solar Boats Challenge. Whether it’s in sports, arts, or dance, our school continues to nurture well-rounded individuals, fostering future leaders, athletes, artists, scientists and contributors to society.

Our community spirit was on full display during key school events like the recent Carols evening, the Specialist Expo highlighting our specialist programs, and Education Week, which shone a spotlight on STEM and drew many of our families into the classroom during our open afternoon.

The strength of our Whitehorse Primary School community has been truly remarkable. Parents and carers have played an integral role in supporting school events, volunteering, and actively participating in their child’s education. Initiatives from the Whitehorse Family Network team and Freezer Angels have continued to make significant contributions, from organizing special lunches for our students to hosting a comedy event for our parents.

Our school Wellbeing Team has continued to lead the implementation of the School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) program, enhancing student wellbeing and promoting positive behaviours. This initiative reflects our commitment to a supportive and inclusive school environment for all our students. In term 1, we  had Canine Comprehension back, with their  therapy dog visiting a small group of 3/4 students.

In 2024, our partnerships have further enriched our school community. Our ongoing collaboration with Monash University and Uniting have provided essential family and student wellbeing support and opportunities. While our new partnership with Born to Soar has enabled parents and students to access targeted extension programs onsite at WPS.

As the year concludes, we celebrate the retirement of Mr. Richard Fly and Ms. Hea Lim, whose years of dedicated service to education have left an enduring legacy. You will be both greatly missed. Congratulations on your Retirement!

We also wish Mrs Dianne Keats and Mrs Deb Strike all the best as they take a year off to focus on their families. We will miss your presence and look forward to your return.

Congratulations to our school principal, Mr Andrew Den Elzen who joined the Whitehorse team this year and, for his inspiring vision to our school community.

Finally, I extend a heartfelt thanks to our WPS students for their hard work, especially our departing Gr 6 cohort, our WPS parents and carers for their ongoing support. And our WPS staff for their dedication and hard work to education. Together, we’ve made 2024 a memorable and successful year.

As we prepare for the holiday season and the new year, let’s carry forward the unity, resilience, and community spirit that defines Whitehorse Primary School. Wishing all our Whitehorse families a joyous holiday season and a restful family break. We look forward to continuing this journey in 2025.

Merry Christmas everyone and Happy New Year!
