Countdown to Book Week

The countdown to Book Week has begun! It's being held from Saturday 16 to 23 August.

This year’s theme is ‘Book an Adventure’, and over the coming weeks we'll be celebrating the joy of reading with a variety of fun events. We have an action-packed program planned, culminating in our annual Dress Up Parade.

DRESS UP PARADE

On Wednesday 20 August, students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character.

Chat with your child about the book characters they love, then explore your wardrobe to find simple costume ideas - everyday clothes can easily be adapted for human characters.

Students can also bring the book, or even a printed copy of its cover, as a great way to help others recognise the character and spark conversations on the day.

Find children's Book Week costume ideas and inspiration here and here.

AUTHOR VISITS

We’re excited to have booked some amazing local and interstate authors to visit our school during Book Week. These include Felice Arena, Jack Henseleit, Zanni Louise and Gus Gordon.

In addition to these in-person visits, we’ll also be hosting online author sessions, which will be shown on the big screen in the Library every recess.

Please check your email for details about your child’s author session.

LUNCHTIME ACTIVITIES

Our Year 6 Library Leader, Lili Metz, and her team have planned some great lunchtime activities for Book Week.

Preps will enjoy a craft activity inspired by the shortlisted picture book Spiro by Anna McGregor, while Years 1s and 2s are invited to participate in a fun treasure hunt.

Lili shares, 'I'm very excited to create the Years 3 to 6 Mystery in the Library. I'm also enjoying reading all the texts for the Years 5 and 6 Battle of the Books quiz, which I hope will be exciting - we'll have a quick-fire buzzer round as well as group questions!'
