Principals Message

Message from the Principal Team
Welcome back to a new school year at Trafalgar Primary School! It has been a fantastic start to 2025, and we are thrilled to see our students settling back into learning with enthusiasm and energy.
Students have returned ready to engage, and we have already seen strong connections forming in classrooms. Our Year 3-6 Swimming Program is underway, offering students a great opportunity to develop their confidence and skills in the water. We appreciate the support of families in ensuring students are prepared for this program.
Setting Up for Success At this time of year, a key focus is on establishing clear expectations around how we do things at Trafalgar Primary School. We know that effective learning happens in a calm, structured environment, and that begins with consistent routines and shared expectations.
As part of our Annual Implementation Plan, we are embedding a whole-school approach to positive behaviour support. This ensures all students understand and experience a consistent approach to behaviour and learning expectations. Teachers are explicitly teaching these expectations in classrooms, covering routines such as lining up, transitions, group work, and respectful interactions. By ensuring clarity and consistency, we are supporting students to self-regulate and engage more effectively in their learning.
In this edition of the newsletters School News you can read about our expectations at Assemblies.
Enhancements to Our Learning Spaces Over the summer break, significant improvements were made to our school facilities. Our new perimeter fence is nearing completion, enhancing security and safety for our students. Line marking has been refreshed, and upgrades to roofing, ramps, and gutters have improved our learning environment. We also welcome our new cleaning team, who have ensured our school is looking its best.
Updated information about accessing the school can be found in the School News section of this edition of the newsletter.
New Leadership Structure in 2025 This year, we have introduced changes to our leadership model to further support student learning. Instead of Learning Specialists leading composite year-level teams, we have moved to straight year-level teams with teachers collaboratively leading within their teams. Learning Specialists now focus on key school-wide improvement strategies, particularly in Literacy, Numeracy, and Behaviour Support. These refinements allow us to strengthen year-level collaboration while maintaining a clear focus on whole-school improvement.
Looking Ahead As we continue into Term 1, we are excited about the learning and opportunities ahead. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for making the start of the year so smooth and positive. We are looking forward to a great 2025 together!
Sincerely,
Cameron Nicholls & Naomi Landmeter
