Term 4 College Highlights

VCE results

It is my pleasure to congratulate our VCE students within both the academic and practical streams for a 100% completion of Year 12, and for the outcomes that they have achieved. Whether it be the achievement of a median study score of 30 across the cohort (shortly to be adjusted from the published 28 by VCAA), with many students attaining study scores in the 40s and heading to the university course of their choice; or the variety of students who will shortly commence their apprenticeships in their chosen field, congratulations!

To our dux Heath Agar, you are to be commended for your dedication and hard work, along with your peers throughout the year. Attaining a ranking of 97.85 and receiving a scholarship to Melbourne University to pursue your interests in within the field of science is a credit to you and something of which you should be proud. Well done.

Celebrating 50 years of service

As the school year draws to a close, it is timely to reflect on some of the events over the past month. On Sunday 17 of November, the college celebrated its 50 years of service to the Scoresby and surrounding suburbs.  The event was very well attended by staff and students dating back to the inaugural year. It was terrific to see the mix of past and current students and staff reminisce over their positive experiences across the past 5 decades.  Musical performances from past and present students and staff were well received and the excitement was palpable.  The event was very well attended despite the storms, with many of the 500 respondents in attendance.

Children’s University Graduation

On Tuesday 26 of November, I had the privilege, along with some of our parents and staff, to celebrate our Children’s University graduates as they received their certificates from the Chancellor.  It was pleasing to see the number of graduates for the event exceeding three hundred students, with some primary school graduates very excited that they will be able to continue their involvement at Scoresby Secondary College in year 7 next year.

Student Voice and Agency

2024 Student feedback illustrated the need for the college to provide increased co-curricular programs.  On Wednesday 4 December, I had the pleasure of visiting the Year 10/11 camp at Phillip Island, where students and staff used the opportunity to celebrate the conclusion of the academic year and bond with each other and their teachers as they approach the 2025 VCE year.  During the second week of 2025, Year 12 students will participate in the Year 12 Residential Camp to be held at Melbourne University.

Additional opportunities for 2025 in response to student feedback, will enable Year 8 students to attend a new camp at Allambie and Year 9 students will attend the Bogong Outdoor Adventure School, in addition to a few Year 9 students who were successful in acquiring a place at The Alpine School.  As always, our Year 7 students will attend their Transition Camp at Camp Rumbug in Foster during February.

Year 7 Orientation Day

On Monday 9 December, we held our 2025 Year 7 Welcome BBQ, where we welcomed our new year 7 students and their families to our community.  On Tuesday10 December, I had the privilege of witnessing the students interact positively with each other and make new friends as part of the Orientation Day program.

We look forward to the student body and all teachers formally welcoming our 2025 Year 7 cohort at the welcome assembly on the 31 January 2025.

Wishing all of our students, their families and our staff a very happy and safe Christmas and holiday break.
