Wellbeing at Berwick College

We hope you’ve had a fantastic Term 3 and are looking forward to a restful school break.

At Berwick College our Wellbeing Team strongly believe learning thrives when students feel safe, supported and connected. The Berwick College Wellbeing Team is committed to nurturing that foundation — helping young people grow their skills, confidence, perseverance and creativity so they can be their best selves. We endeavour to support the whole student—academically, physically, socially and emotionally —

and strive to ensure every young person at our school is known, heard and cared for.

This term, the team has been busy supporting students across the college with targeted programs, 1:1 support and small-group work designed to enhance emotional, social and academic wellbeing.

New to our Team: Welcome to Veronica, Art Therapist (Placement)

Veronica joins us each Monday, 9:00am–3:00pm, offering art therapy by appointment in individual and small-group formats. Art therapy gives students a creative, low-pressure way to explore feelings, manage stress and build confidence—especially helpful for young people who find words difficult.

Placements & practical support

This term we hosted two ISN provisional psychologists and four student placements—all of whom contributed practically to running groups, observing sessions and supporting individual students alongside our team.

Term highlights

PEERS (Year 7) — a small group of Year 7 students began the evidence-based PEERS social skills program. Over eight weeks they’re learning practical skills for conversations, friendships, electronic communication and conflict-handling. This program was delivered by the Youth Connect Foundation and funded by the City of Casey Community Grant.

Life Changer Foundation (Year 8) — Year 8 completed a strengths-based series aimed at building resilience, self-esteem and a stronger sense of purpose through practical, evidence-informed activities.

Project Unwind (Year 9 girls) — Created and led by youth workers Kayla Lomas and Carrie Archer, this program focused on anxiety-management tools, emotional regulation and confidence through interactive workshops and 1:1 support.

Connection Crew (Year 10 boys) — Facilitated by Travis Tuck, Connection Crew provided a safe space for young men to build friendships, practise social skills and explore healthy emotional expression.

Breakfast Club - Thursdays, 8:00am

Thanks to the generous support of City Life Church, our Breakfast Club runs every Thursday from 8:00am. All students are welcome to drop in for a free breakfast, friendly faces and a calm start to the day. A simple way we help students feel connected, arrive ready to learn and belong. Contact Travis Tuck from the Wellbeing team for more information.

Recognition

We’re very proud that Travis Tuck was a finalist in the 2025 Victorian Protecting Children Awards (VPCA). The 22nd annual ceremony was held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 2 September 2025

Travis was nominated for his work in ‘Engaging young people with education’ — a testament to the meaningful impact our staff make for young people and families across Victoria.

Looking ahead

We’re already planning for an equally productive Term 4. If you’d like to refer a student, or learn more about our programs, please contact the Wellbeing Centre via 8768 1000 or speak to your year-level coordinator.
