Term 3 Sport

This term, Berwick College has been proudly represented by a fantastic group of students across a variety of Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR) sporting events. We saw many dedicated athletes step up, showing great sportsmanship and determination on the field and court. Special congratulations to the students and teams who advanced through to the State level — an incredible achievement that reflects their hard work and commitment. To everyone who wore the Berwick colours this term, we want you to know how proud we are of your effort and spirit. Well done for coming out, giving it your all, and representing our school with pride!
SMR - Year 8 Boys AFL
What an amazing day of football from the year 8 boys on the 23rd of July. They kicked off their 2nd campaign with a thrilling 2-point victory in their first game, showcasing determination and a hunger to compete. Despite a narrow 7-point loss in their second match, the boys had led confidently at halftime against Koo Wee Rup Secondary, proving they have the heart and skill to match any side. Their teamwork and genuine enjoyment of the game set the tone for a promising year 9 team in 2026.
SMR - Intermediate (Inter) Boys AFL
Well done to the Inter-boys for giving all their effort into a wonderful day out at Football. The boys gelled well together early on showing plenty of enthusiasm and encouragement for one another. This energy and competitiveness proved to be very important in their performance of three convincing wins to make it to the final for the day. Unfortunately, the final did not go our way, going down to Frankston by a few goals. The team played exceptionally throughout the day with highlights from our goal kickers throughout the day - James Cross, Jack Szybkowski, Finn Raven, Jet Buckland, Logan Stockx. Massive efforts from all players throughout the day, managing rotations and putting in full effort with minimal rest was a challenge but they handled it incredibly well.
It was a pleasure to take these groups of boys out to represent the school through pride and respect. Congratulations all for your amazing efforts.
SMR - Senior Boys Soccer
This week, our Senior Boys Soccer team proudly represented our school at the Regional Soccer Competition. This was a special milestone, as it has been quite some time since we’ve made it through to the regional level. The boys were full of excitement and energy from the very beginning, determined to give their best on the field.
Although we didn’t progress to the state championships, the day was nothing short of a success. The students showcased fantastic teamwork, sportsmanship, and determination throughout each match. One of the biggest highlights of the day was the strong team bond that developed – from warming up together in the early morning chill, to cheering each other on from the sidelines, and sharing plenty of laughs in between games.
It was wonderful to see friendships strengthened, skills put to the test, and school pride on full display. A huge congratulations to all the boys for their hard work, positive attitude, and commitment to representing our school so well – both on and off the pitch. We are already looking forward to building on this experience for next year!
SMR - Inter Girls Soccer
The Intermediate Girls Soccer team represented Berwick College at the SMR competition, showing determination and resilience throughout the day. While they missed out on qualifying for the finals, the team demonstrated impressive character both on and off the field. They played with courage, supported one another in every game, and upheld the school’s values with pride. Their efforts not only highlighted their skill but also their commitment to teamwork and sportsmanship. While the games and scores did not go our way, they still played through it with smiles and laughter.
SMR - Inter Girls AFL
"A massive congratulations to our year 9 students who represented Berwick College at the regional round of Girls AFL this week. Our AFL Girls played extremely well being undefeated across the day and winning the final against EMC 37-1.
A huge congratulations to all involved! We now look forward to watching the team compete at the State level later this term."
SMR - All Boys Netball
REGION BOYS' NETBALL SUCCESS
On August 4, three boys' team made their way to Jubilee Stadium to play in the Region Netball Finals Day. We were represented by our Year 7, 10 and 12 boys.
The year 7 boys were challenged by having to play outdoors but adapted well and finished top of their pool. They faced Dromana SC in the final, but after a great showing, they fell a bit short and were awarded Runner’s Up.
The year 10 boys encountered harder and harder teams as they progressed through the pool matches. In the last Pool round, the school that won got to progress to the final. The Berwick boys put on a good display of skills and won. Next step, the final against Patterson River. It was a bit topsy turvy till the boys settled and went on to win the flag.
The year 12 boys had something to prove from last year, as they fell short by percentage. This year, they were all switched on and ready to capitalise on any loose ball, scoring freely in all pool matches. This saw them advance to the final to take on Elisabeth Murdoch College. In a great team effort, the year 12 came out victorious.
This now means that both the year 10 and year 12 boys will play in the State Finals to be played at the Waverley Netball Centre on September 1. Good luck, boys … it’s in your hands … let’s see what we can do. Ms Graham 😊
SMR - Year 8 Girls Netball
Well done to our year 8 Girls Netball Teams for being the overall winners at today’s inter-school sport. The A team went undefeated with four wins from four games, while the B team also came away with two wins from two games. We’re incredibly proud of the teamwork, effort, encouragement and skill the girls displayed throughout the day and we’re excited to take on the next level of competition!
SMR - Year 7 Boys AFL
Congratulations to the Year 7 Boys Footy team for a terrific game day at Regionals! The boys trained consistently twice a week in the lead-up, and their dedication was evident on the field. A special thanks goes to Travis Tuck for assisting with coaching on the day. The team came out strong, winning their first three games with skill and teamwork, and earning their place in the final. Although they were defeated, it was a hard-fought match and the boys should be very proud of their efforts and the way they represented the school. I thoroughly enjoyed being their coach this season and look forward to coming back even stronger next year.
SMR - Inter Girls Netball
Our Intermediate Girls A Team had an incredible run at their recent netball competition, showcasing skill, teamwork, and determination. They started strong, winning all three of their matches and earning a well-deserved spot in the finals. Unfortunately, a knee injury to one of our key players shook the team’s confidence, and despite their best efforts, they were narrowly defeated by Frankston in the final match. We wish our injured player all the best in her recovery and can’t wait to see her back on the court soon! Every player gave their all, demonstrating grit and sportsmanship throughout the day. The team should be extremely proud of their achievements and the way they supported each other both on and off the court.
The B Team also played three strong matches and, while they didn’t make it through to the finals, their effort and perseverance were fantastic to see. Being a team that was new to playing together, they embraced the challenge, tried out a number of different rotations, and showed growth with every game—finding their best combination in their final match. With only one key shooter, they worked hard, adapted quickly, and should be proud of the way they came together as a team.
Well done to all the players for their hard work, resilience, and school spirit!
SMR - Year 7 Girls Netball
Well done to the year 7 Girls who represented the school at Regional Netball. Both teams gave their all across the day, showing fantastic teamwork, energy, and encouragement for one another.
Team A started strongly, coming together quickly and displaying plenty of enthusiasm, which helped them secure two solid wins. Team B showed great determination and competitiveness, finishing the day with a well-deserved victory of their own.
Highlights included strong defensive efforts, quick ball movement through the mid-court, and accurate shooting under pressure. Every player contributed, adapting well to rotations and giving maximum effort throughout the competition.
It was a pleasure to see the girls compete with pride, respect, and resilience. Congratulations to all players for an outstanding effort and for representing the school so well.
STATE - Boys Netball
The Intermediate and Senior Boys Netball teams made their way to the Waverley Netball Centre to compete in the SSV State Championships on September 1.
What an incredible day of netball it was for both teams. They played with skill, passion, and great sportsmanship.
The Intermediate team finished the pool rounds in 2nd place. So we had to play the winner of the other pool in a cross-over semi-final. We took on Catholic College Wodonga (the eventual winners). It was a tight tussle all game, but in the end, the boys went down by 4 goals. Finishing 3rd in the State - so impressed with their efforts.
The players are - Jye White - Cooper McCallum - Henry Brown - Archie Hooper - Ben Lane - Hudson Freeman - Jack Dawson - Max Hayward - Xavier Ford.
The Senior boys also placed second in their pool and played off in a cross-over semi-final. It was a tough encounter, and the boys prevailed by scoring the winning goal on the final buzzer. The Grand Final was next against Western Heights SC. The team went into this match without Seth and EK - both injured in previous games. It was a real nail-biter, with the teams tied at full time. They played extra time, still a draw. So they had to continue playing till one team was two goals in front. Our hearts were racing the whole time. But in the end the opposition pipped us by two goals. We won silver. I could not be more proud of the boys, they fought so hard, never gave up and got around each other the whole day.
The players are - Seth Horne - Flynn Maher - Jordan Dyrsmid - Jed Robertson - Cohen Hopkins - Brandon Pele - Marcus Krasnadamskis - Elijah Kata - Korban Stone.
A big thank you to all the parents and family who came along to support the boys and myself - though we may not say it, it was so great to see you and we loved your support and cheering.
Division Athletics
Congratulations to all the students who represented Berwick College at the recent Division Athletics. We had an impressive number of competitors across a wide range of track and field events, with everyone putting in an outstanding effort on the day. Many of our athletes achieved first-place results, earning themselves a spot at the upcoming State Championships. We are incredibly proud of all participants and wish those progressing to State the very best of luck.
SMR - Year 8 Girls Tennis
The year 8 girls travelled to Pakenham Tennis Centre on Monday the 15/09. Even with the extremely windy conditions, the girls were able to win both of their qualifying games against Albert Park and Elisabeth Murdock. As a result, the girls were able to make it into the finals against McKinnon. By the end of the day, the girls were able to come 2nd and taking home the runners up flag for regionals. All of the girl played their absolute best and represented Berwick College extremely well.
State Final - Intermediate Girls AFL
A massive congratulations to the effort from all of the year 9 and 10 girls who represented Berwick College in the Intermediate AFL State Final. The girls played their absolute best leading to a draw at the end of the game. This meant that we went into overtime where the girls again put extreme defensive pressure but unfortunately Sale scored a goal in the last two minutes. It was amazing to see the determination and effort from all of the girls out on the field especially due to a team dynamic change due to injuries. Amazing effort girls!
