We seem say it every edition, but what a big two weeks it's been here at sunny Banyule Primary!
Just for laughs...
Firstly a HUGE thank you to the members of our Community Engagement Committee for their work to put together our very first Comedy Night Fundraiser. Particular thanks go to the event organisers Miranda M, Will W, Suse B, Mina L, Lauren D, Amanda S, Sophie S and Claire Johnston for an epic effort to bring the night together.
A great time was had by all. Thanks to everyone who supported by attending, donating, purchasing, mingling and 'LOL'ing their way through the hilarity of a great night.
Speaking of awesome...
Congratulations to the 4 students selected to represent Banyule Primary at our very first public speaking competition with Eltham East Primary. The idea for this event arose through two principals chatting about great ideas at a network meeting. While it was two Principals' brainchild, the many thanks must go to our High Abilities Program Leader Trent Miles and his Eltham East counterpart for putting the work in to get this idea off the ground and preparing the students for a wonderful and challenging experience. Our school was proudly represented by Max P, Willow J, Isabelle M and Aishah S who did an amazing job presenting their speeches, before undertaking a challenging impromptu task, presenting an almost off-the-cuff about the best invention ever. Congratulations to these four for an outstanding effort representing the school, with special mention to Willow who earned the title of joint winner of the inaugural speech competition. We look forward to this becoming a great new tradition and ongoing connection with Eltham East Primary School.
Footy Finals Fever...
This term our final day free dress tradition takes on a footy flavour. As such, students are invited to dress in AFL team colours on Friday September 19th. Of course, with two of our three school leaders being avid Hawthorn fans, brown and gold colours would be preferred, but not essential!!
Going for gold and doing it for the kids...
As with all of our free dress days, our Junior School Council will be asking for gold coin donations to support a great charity event. This term the voice of these students has chosen to support The Mighty Trek Challenge-Walk for Prems. The Mighty Trek Challenge- Walk for Prems is happening in October and the moneys raised from Footy Day will be supporting the Mercy Neonatal Unit. More information about this event and cause can be found in our Community section of this Bulletin.
OSHClub Update...
During the first week of the holidays we will be having the gym floor resurfaced. This means that the OSH program will be relocating to the middle of Block B. Families will be contacted by OSH with more information and a map of the school to show the best entry and exit points for Block B.
Moving time...
A reminder that the Victorian School Building Authority is currently preparing for removal one of relocatable classroom units on Wednesday September 17th. This will involve trucks, a crane and some traffic management around Banyule Road to make this happen. Please be mindful of some possible changes in accessing parts of the school on this day. Our planned Working Bee has also been postponed as a result and a new flyer regarding this will be sent out next term.
Planning for the Future...
We are well underway with our planning for the 2026 school year. If you know that our child/family will not be returning to BPS in the new school year could you please let us know as soon as possible.
Time for a break...
A reminder that dismissal time on our last day of Term 3 next Friday, September 19th, is 2.30pm. With this being the last Bulletin for this term, we thank everyone for their support throughout the term and wish you all a safe and restful break. We look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday October 6th.
-Natalie, Sam and Claire.
