BSPS Working Bee #2 – A Huge Success!

Last Saturday afternoon, 19 adults and 8 kids braved Melbourne’s cold spell to take part in BSPS’s second working bee for 2025. After just 30 minutes, the rain clouds parted, the sun came out, and the group got to work on an ambitious agenda for the day.

🌈 Installing the Rainbow Mural – Inclusion Space

This long-anticipated project is finally coming to life! Last year, every student painted a tile in Arte with Anna.

Theme: Rainbow theme representing our vibrant, diverse community.

Thank you Anna.

A big shoutout to Ellen, Claire and Pia, who learned to tile on the spot and handled last-minute changes like pros. And thank you to local business De Fazio for generously donating the tiles.

🧱 Laying the Foundation for the Floor MuralFive men, three kids, three hours, and 50 bags of concrete—mixed by hand on site in wheelbarrows. That’s dedication!

Huge thanks to Chris Stanley, Chris Sandiford, Dris, Simon, Dan K, and the strong kids who helped pour the slab. As a reward, their names are now immortalised in concrete for all to see—until the next working bee, when we’ll tile over it with a vibrant kaleidoscope pattern.

🌱 More Plants, More Biodiversity! This time we moved beyond the school gates, creating a new garden bed opposite the main entry—ready for a secret installation (coming soon!).

Thank you to Rowan, Jenny, Noel, Dan, Marlene, Jyoti, Julia, Relvi, and Anthony for digging in and getting the job done.

One Garden Bed at a Time…We achieved an incredible amount in one afternoon. Slowly but surely, our school grounds are transforming—with greater biodiversity, more nature, and less pollution.

But real change needs more than just a few working bees. Our plants need care and time to thrive.

🌿 Imagine if every one of our 150 families gave just 5 minutes each week. 🌿

So next time you're at drop-off, pick-up, or hanging out at Ciao Down, the Environment (B&G) Committee encourages you to:

  • Join the Gardening Club
  • Water a plant
  • Pull a weed

Every little bit helps!
