Learning in STEM

STEM is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

STEM Science Week Competition

National Science Week 2025 ran from the 9th to the 17th August, it encouraged schools and students to delve into the mysteries of the universe under this year’s theme: Decoding the Universe – Exploring the Unknown with Nature’s Hidden Language. To celebrate and take part in National Science Week, Springers were invited to participate in competitions for each Junior (P-2), Middle (3/4) and Senior (5/6) schools.

Junior school students were given the task of designing and creating a model rocket to take them to the stars. Creativity was key here!

Congratulations to Gurtaaz in J07 for her amazing, winning submission.

Middle schoolers were invited to design an interesting and detailed representation of our solar system. They were encouraged to do some research and include as many celestial objects as they could.

Congratulations to Sophie in M25 for her detailed, winning submission.

Senior students were given the opportunity to create a unique and functional sundial. These needed to be as accurate as possible!

Congratulations to Hossain Mohammad (Fayyad) from S33 for his wonderful, winning submission.

Special mentions go to Tryaksh J12, Methuni J12, Amanah Syed J07, Tate J12, Satkar J12, Courtney J10, Madison J11, Parva J13, Violet J03, Zach O M23, Millie M21 and Bentleigh S39 for their super star efforts and ingenuity!

A big congratulations to all the Springers entrants for the incredible effort and creativity you put into your designs - they were truly out of this world!

Year Three STEM Incursion – Hot! Hot!

On Friday 5th September, Chris from Prime Sci (Swinburne) delivered a session for each class that included exciting demonstrations and hands-on learning activities for students. We explored what heat is, the different ways it is produced, and how heat can be transferred through cleverly designed activities and exciting demonstrations.

It was fun when we were doing the experiments and I liked when he lit the teabag on fire. And I liked how we got to make and experiment with stuff just like Chris.

Everything was good. 10 out of 10. My favourite part was the floating teabag.
Noah B M23

It was fun when Chris made the teabag fly.
Shayleigh M26

Excellent. It was the best science lesson in the world.
Asu M26

I enjoyed measuring the temperature of the different cups.
Leo M29

I think it was really good. I liked how Chris lead us to the answers and explained all the science experiments. My favourite part was the thermochromic paint on the cups.
Lillie M29

It was awesome. My favourite part were the ‘magic’ tricks that used physics.
Emily M24

My favourite part was when Chirs put the teabag on fire and then it floated to the roof.
Sete M24

We learned about conduction and metal helped the ice melt really fast. The foam barely melted the ice, it took soo long!
Sophie M25

My favourite part was when Chris lit the teabag on fire and it floated up. It was pretty good.
