Learning in J13

Junior School Turner is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

Year 2’s Ancient Egypt Adventure

This term, J13 has been travelling back in time to explore the amazing world of Ancient Egypt. We have been exploring where Egypt is located and why the mighty Nile River was so important to the people, especially because its yearly floods provided the fertile soil needed for farming.

We learnt that the rulers of Egypt were called pharaohs. They were very powerful and were treated like gods on earth. Everyday Egyptians also had important jobs, like farming, building, making clothes, or working as scribes. Everyone worked together to make their civilisation strong.

One of the things we were most fascinated by was the pyramids. We found out they were giant stone tombs built for pharaohs. Inside, the tombs were decorated with treasures, paintings, and even written spells to help the pharaohs in the afterlife.

We discovered that the Egyptians believed in many gods and goddesses who controlled everything from the sun to the river. They wrote in hieroglyphics, a type of picture writing, which we tried to decode ourselves!

We enjoyed learning about King Tutankhamun, the boy king. When his tomb was discovered, it was filled with treasures that told us so much about Egyptian life and beliefs.

Learning about Ancient Egypt has been exciting, interesting, and full of surprises. These are the things we enjoyed learning about most!
