What's happening around our school...
We have had a great start back to Term 4. We are looking forward to so many great events this term too!
In Mathematics, we have been sorting items into categories and looking at similarities and differences. We also lined the items up to determine which category was larger.

We have been focusing on the text “The Gruffalo". Students have been learning to identify various aspects of the story. We performed and retold the story in small groups.

Problem solving and team work!
In Grades 1 and 2 we have been talking about ‘Teamwork’ and what that might look like. Some ideas from students include:
We played some team-based games to put our Teamwork skills into practice. We enjoyed getting out in the sunshine and working as a team to move water from a bucket into a cup. We could only use a kitchen spoon to move the water, and needed to pass it along to all of our teammates to get to the cup. Everyone showed awesome teamwork skills - encouraging each other and working together. There were also lots of problem-solving conversations happening as each team tried to work out the best way to move the water.

We warmly invite you to visit and see the creative work your children have been doing in our Geography Inquiry unit!🗓
When: Thursday 23rd October
🕒 Time: 3:00pm📍
Where: Your child’s classroom
Our students have been exploring how global divisions, climate, and the environment shape different places by comparing Australia with other countries. As part of their learning, they have researched, designed, and created diorama models to represent their chosen types of vegetation, and they can’t wait to share their projects with you.
Additionally, we have started reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate for our literature studies. The students are really enjoying this book this term. They are learning about persuasive techniques and will be working towards writing persuasive letters.

It’s hard to believe we’re already in the final term of Grade 5/6 - and for many students, their last term of primary school! This term is shaping up to be both exciting and full of rich learning opportunities.
We ended last term on a high note with our unforgettable camp at Anglesea - and what a fantastic adventure it was! Students embraced the opportunity to work as a team, strengthen friendships, and build resilience through a variety of exciting activities, including crate climbing, the giant swing, archery, and radio rogaine. It was a memorable experience that challenged, inspired, and brought out the very best in everyone.
This term we’re kicking things off with a global adventure—without even leaving the classroom! In our Geography unit, students are exploring a variety of environments and learning how different biomes influence the way people live, work, and play. We’re examining the ways humans shape the world around them and how our choices can impact places - sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse. Coming up, we’ll be turning our attention to how the environment influences human activity, diving into topics like extreme weather and natural disasters such as floods and bushfires. Students will explore how communities prepare for these events and stay safe.
In Literacy, we’ve returned to persuasive writing, with a strong connection to our Geography studies. We're reading The Last Bear by Hannah Gold - a moving middle-grade novel that explores environmental conservation and the powerful bond between humans and animals. Through this text, students are engaging with themes of courage, resilience, and the need to protect our planet. They’re also learning how authors use persuasive techniques to influence readers, which will help them craft their own persuasive letters on the importance of environmental protection.

STEM Week Project Display.
We are inviting Kalinda families and friends to come see the projects before or after school next week to see what the year 3/4 and 5/6 students have been working on for our Physics unit last term. The Year 5/6 projects will be on display in the corridor between the modules and the Year 3/4 projects will be on display in the STEM Lab.
On Wednesday 29th October the students will undertake an AI challenge, building on their problem-solving skills as they race to collect all their puzzle pieces to find the answer.
Foundation to Year 2 students are learning about Sound and Vibration, exploring how sound travels through the air causing vibrations that enter our ears while undertaking a variety of experiments.
Year 3/4 are learning how to design a flood proof house using Makers Empire 3D modelling application.
Year 5/6 are learning about electricity, exploring making their own circuits using conductors and insulators.
A little bit of fun with Static Electricity.

The Foundation students have begun Term 4 by beginning three-dimensional flower sculptures. The first step has been mixing primary colours to create new colours. This was a fun exploration with messy fingers!

Meet “Patches”, our pot of pride that is present to the Nude Food class winner of the week.
