🍳 Cooking with Ollie
I’m staying with Ollie’s family, and Ollie and I sometimes cook together. So far we have cooked the Bluey omelette, Japanese curry and rice, and taco rice. Compared to Indian or Thai curry, Japanese curry is thicker. A classic Japanese curry includes potatoes, carrots, onions, and meat (beef, pork, or chicken) and served with fluffy sticky rice. While I prepared the meat, Ollie peeled vegetables carefully. As the curry was simmered, he repeated「おいしくなーれ、おいしくなーれ!」which means “Be delicious, be delicious!” Thanks to his magic words, the curry turned out very tasty! Also, the taco rice we made was great. Taco rice is inspired by Mexican tacos and is served on top of rice instead of in a tortilla. Ollie liked it so much that we made it twice. The second time, he remembered all the steps, worked more smoothly, and helped a lot. Cooking with Ollie has been such a heartwarming experience. I’m looking forward to trying other recipes together.
🐪 My holidays in Uluru
During school holidays, I traveled to Central Australia with my friends! As soon as I got off the plane, I saw a totally different world, which was a red and wide desert landscape. That evening, we joined the sunset Uluru tour. We waited for the sunset while enjoying an Aussie style BBQ. In the last ten minutes before sunset, Uluru turned brilliant red — it was so beautiful and mystical. The next day, we took a bus for three hours to Kings Canyon. I had heard the Rim Walk was quite tough, so I felt a bit nervous. However, I was so fascinated by the scenery that even the most challenging part - the 500 steps - was over before I knew it. The oasis called the Garden of Eden and the cliffs over 100 meters deep were breathtaking. No photo could capture how vast they were. It’s definitely one of the highlights of my time in Australia.
🏖️ My holidays in Sydney
After visiting Uluru, I flew straight to Sydney by myself. During the bus tour to Uluru, I sat next to a man who had already been to Sydney. He shared some great tips for getting around there. Thanks to his advice, I was able to easily visit many of Sydney's landmarks, such as the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Luna Park, and some popular beaches. I had thought the Opera House was completely white, but actually it’s covered in thousands of tiles that create zigzag patterns. I learned this design was the key to making the Opera House look beautiful in any weather. One night, I met up with another friend, Nao. We became friends because she came to Australia on a working holiday just like me. This time, she introduced me to her former colleague, Chihana, and the three of us enjoyed dinner together. Coming to Australia has not only brought me amazing experiences but also wonderful new friendships. I’m grateful for these connections!
