5/6 CLASSROOM

We’re excited to be back for the final term of the year! Term 4 is always a busy and rewarding time filled with learning, reflection, and celebration. Our Grade 5/6 students will be working hard to finish the year strongly while also enjoying a range of special events and activities. For our Year 6 students, this term is particularly special as they complete their final term at primary school, marking the end of one chapter and the start of another.

We are excited to welcome Raeley Davidson, a 3rd-year La Trobe University student teacher, to our class for the first four weeks of Term 4. Raeley will be gaining practical classroom experience with us, and we look forward to the fresh ideas, enthusiasm, and extra support she will bring to our learning activities. It’s a wonderful opportunity for both our students and Raeley to learn and grow together.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic term of growth, teamwork, and achievement!

A few reminders:

Term 4 means hats on when outside as part of our SunSmart policy.

Homework includes reading each night and practicing times tables (remember to record in diaries)

  • English - Term 4 Focus: This term, our English program will focus on persuasive writing before moving into information reports. We’ll begin by reading The Last Bear by Hannah Gold to explore persuasive techniques, including argument construction, emotive language, and audience awareness. Afterward, students will research, plan, and write structured information reports, using clear headings, factual language, appropriate vocabulary, and visual aids such as tables and diagrams.
  • Maths – Term 4 Focus: This term in Mathematics, Grade 5/6 students will focus on measurement and time, including area, perimeter, volume, and practical time applications. They will strengthen their understanding of fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, angles, shapes, and transformations. Later, students will collect and interpret data, explore basic probability, and continue developing problem-solving and reasoning skills across all areas of maths.
  • Inquiry – Term 4 Focus: In Term 4, our senior students will embark on an engaging Earth and Space Science inquiry unit. They will explore key concepts such as the solar system, lunar phases, and the impact of natural forces on Earth's features. Through hands-on investigations and collaborative learning, students will develop a deeper understanding of the dynamic systems that shape our planet and the universe beyond. This inquiry-based approach encourages critical thinking and fosters a sense of wonder about the natural world.
  • RE - Term 4 Focus: In Term 4, our Religious Education program takes students on a journey through faith. They will explore the Bible’s Sacred Stories, reflect on Creation and caring for our world, and learn what it means to live as disciples of Jesus through the Mission unit. As Advent approaches, students will prepare for Christmas by reflecting on the birth of Jesus and the hope and joy it brings.
  • Auslan – Term 4 Focus: Students will continue learning Auslan with Tim each fortnight. This term, they will explore Deaf Events and Celebrating Deaf Culture, take part in collaborative activities in Celebrating Together, enjoy stories and signing practice with Noah’s Ark and The Birth of Jesus, and finish the term with festive fun in Happy Holidays!
