Year 3/4 News

PROCEDURAL TEXT UNIT

Over the last 2 weeks, students have been learning all about procedural texts. They've been able to recognise many different types of procedures (eg. recipes, rules of a game, craft instructions etc).  We've looked closely at the features and structure of procedures, including the use of verbs and adverbs to add adequate detail for the reader.

Students wrote and followed their own detailed procedure on "How to Make Fairy Bread". Check out these happy snaps!

Building READING FLUENCY in Grade 3/4

Our Grade 3/4 students have been working on their reading fluency through paired reading sessions three times a week. Fluency means reading smoothly, with accuracy, expression, and the right pace. When students read fluently, they don’t just sound better — they also understand and enjoy what they’re reading more deeply.

During these sessions, we look for students to read with accuracy, phrasing, and expression, while paying attention to punctuation. Re-reading the same text is a powerful way to build fluency, which in turn strengthens comprehension. Check them out!!

We encourage students to continue practising at home by reading the same text aloud several times. This not only boosts confidence but also helps students become more thoughtful and engaged readers!!
