The Importance of Sleep
As part of our weekly wellbeing check-ins, many students have shared that they are finding sleep a challenge. Getting enough sleep is vital for children’s learning, health, and wellbeing. Primary school-aged children need 9–12 hours of sleep each night.
Why sleep matters:
- Supports memory, concentration, and learning
- Helps with growth and physical health
Improves behaviour, mood, and emotional regulation
Tips for healthy sleep habits:
- Keep a regular bedtime and wake-up time
- Create a calming bedtime routine (reading, quiet music, gentle conversation)
- Limit screen time in the hour before bed
Ensure the bedroom is quiet, dark, and comfortable
By supporting healthy sleep routines, we can help our children feel happier, healthier, and ready to learn each day.
