End of Term Assembly Performance
At the end of Term 3 we enjoyed a wonderful singing performance from Nicky’s singing group. The group included students from years 1 to 5 and they performed the song 'The Greatest Show' from the movie The Greatest Showman.
Nicky chose this song for us and we spent most of Term 3 learning it. We had harmonies, solos, chorus and choir throughout the song. I enjoy spending time with all the people in the singing class and seeing Nicky every Monday. I encourage others to give it a go, it builds confidence, public speaking skills and is a great opportunity to build friendships.

World Teachers Day
Friday 31 October is when we, in Victoria, celebrate World Teachers Day. This is the community’s chance to thank our teachers and acknowledge the wonderful work that they do each day to support the learning and development of our students.
Everyone, no matter how old, can remember a great teacher who made a difference in their lives.
It would be wonderful if our community could take the time on Friday 31 October to say thank you to your child’s teacher as we can assure you it will be greatly appreciated and will make their day.
Grade 6 Teacher for a Day!
On Wednesday, 15th October, our Grade 6 students swapped their school uniforms for teacher lanyards as they took part in the much-anticipated Teacher for a Day experience!
This special event gave every Year 6 student the opportunity to step into the shoes of a teacher for the day, planning lessons, running activities, and experiencing what it’s like to be on the other side of the classroom.
Some students took on specialist roles, while two very lucky students, Zorain and Ella, even had the chance to be Principal for a Day alongside Mrs Gregson!
“Mrs Gregson had lots of important jobs – like writing newsletter articles, stapling official documents, wearing the birthday cape, and handing out birthday cards!” said Ella. “We didn’t realise how much fun being a principal could be!” added Zorain.
The day gave our senior students a new appreciation for the responsibilities of teachers and leaders at school, and a lot of laughs along the way.
“It’s fantastic to see what a day in the life of a teacher is really like… with just a little bit of the serious work taken out!”
Throughout the day, Zorain and Ella visited classes across the school to interview both the student-teachers and their students. Here’s what they found:
Prep (OJG)
- Scarlett (student-teacher): “I enjoyed getting to know the Preps.”
- Rose (student-teacher): “I liked experiencing Prep again!”
- Paige (Prep student): “I liked doing phonics.”
Year 1 (1MR)
- Darcey (student-teacher): “I enjoyed getting to know the kids.”
- Charlie (Year 1 student): “I liked P.E. and having extra help.”
Year 3 (3MR)
- Quinn (student-teacher): “I enjoyed rewarding good behaviour with stickers.”
- Logan (Year 3 student): “I liked that our teacher got a day off!”
- Ruhi (Year 3 student): “I liked having a new teacher for the day.” and I wish “They could explain a bit more.”
Year 4 (4JG)
- Finn (student-teacher): “I liked reading the class a book called Walter the Farting Dog.”
- Tilly (Year 4 student): “They were very supportive.” and I wish “They could talk a little louder.”
Year 5
- Raf (student-teacher): “The students were nice and caring.”
- Emily (Year 5 student): “I liked the writing lesson and the book they chose” and “I wish they had neater handwriting so I could read it better!”
The Grade 6 Teacher for a Day event was a huge success, filled with creativity, leadership, and laughter. It gave our senior students a valuable glimpse into the world of teaching and reminded everyone just how much effort and enthusiasm our teachers bring to class each day.
Whether they were teaching or being taught by a Year 6 student, everyone agreed it was an amazing day. We definitely recommend this idea to other schools! Congratulations to all our amazing Year 6 “teachers” for making the day such a memorable one!

Social Media Delay for Under-16s: What Parents & Carers Need to Know
At Bimbadeen Heights Primary School, we are deeply committed to promoting cyber safe behaviours and helping our students navigate the digital world with confidence and care. As part of this commitment, we want to draw your attention to important changes announced by the Australian Government regarding age restrictions on social media platforms. Starting 10 December 2025, children under the age of 16 will no longer be permitted to create or maintain accounts on age-restricted social media platforms. These changes are designed to reduce online risks and support healthier, more focused learning environments for all students.
What’s Changing?
Why This Matters
Social media can expose children to:
- Harmful content
- Excessive screen time
- Online pressure and peer comparison
- Risks to mental health and wellbeing
The delay gives children more time to grow emotionally and socially before navigating complex online environments.
Which Platforms Are Affected?
Likely included:
- Facebook
- Instagram
- Snapchat
- TikTok
- X (formerly Twitter)
- YouTube
Excluded:
- Online gaming platforms
- Standalone messaging apps (unless they include social media-style features)
Positive Impact
- More focus in class, reduced distractions, and stronger protection from unsafe content.
- Children will have more time to develop resilience and digital literacy before engaging with social media.
- Families can foster healthier online habits and better sleep routines.
What You Can Do
- Talk to your child about the changes and why they’re happening.
- Review parental controls and screen time settings.
- Help them find alternative ways to connect with friends.
- Stay informed through resources from the eSafety Commissioner.
Enforcement & Support
- Platforms must show they’ve taken meaningful steps to comply.
- Appeals processes will be available for mistakenly removed accounts.
- eSafety will offer webinars and resources to help families navigate the transition.
School Contextual Information
- Proactive teaching and learning in school regarding cyber safe behaviours.
- Teaching and learning regarding the Digital Technologies curriculum.
- Policies that promote child safe online behaviours, such as:
- Acceptable Use Agreement
- Bully Prevention
- Child Safety and Wellbeing
- Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations
- Digital Learning Policy
Visit the eSafety Commissioner’s website for FAQs, downloadable flyers and tips for talking with your child.
Safe Socials
The Department of Education has released new tips and resources for parents, carers and families to support primary school students to be safe when using social media. The Safe Socials – For parents and carers (Primary) | vic.gov.au (www.vic.gov.au) webpage includes information on how parents and carers can support a positive and safe online experience for their child, information about signs a child or young person might need support, and information about what to do if your child experiences something unsafe online, along with information about where to reach out for support. We encourage you to explore the new information and resources available to ensure your child is safe when using social media.
We hope you all enjoy a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to a fabulous final week of term.
Warm regards,
Adele Gregson, Sabrina George, Marty Gill and Bree King
