As the saying goes, many hands make light work. Well, we can report that many hands did indeed attend our Term 1 Working Bee last Saturday. It was G.R.E.A.T. to have so many families helping out to look after our school. As you can see by the photos, we painted the fence around the amphitheatre and the Gaga pit also got a fresh coat! A highlight was seeing so many students working together and joining in.
We have set the date for our Term 2 Working Bee so please put Saturday 23rd May 8.30am – 11.30am in your calendars now!

Well done to all our students who participated in our House Cross Country Carnival yesterday. This event was held at Whatmough Park and Partington’s Flats in Greensborough. It was a terrific day with all the elements of a successful event coming together: the weather, a wonderful level of parental attendance and support, outstanding organisation by Jordan Daley and the staff team, our awesome student leaders (House Captains) and most importantly an amazing level of student participation and of course our school values of Grit, Respect, Effort, Adventure & Teamwork.
Congratulations to all the students who pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and well done to those who will go on to represent our school at the District Cross Country Carnival.
A special highlight for me today was the “out and back” course design featuring a section of the fire trial around the DV Soccer Club ground. It was awesome to see so many students giving high 5’s to each other as they ran past and lots of positive shout outs as well.
Our House Sports days are a real feature of our school and a celebration of our school culture and values. Most importantly, they provide the opportunity for all students to participate at their own level with a great level of support from everyone.

One of our strengths at Greenhills is the broad range of learning opportunities our students have. A G.R.E.A.T. example of this are our specialist subjects: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, STEAM, Physical Education and Italian. These five subjects ensure that our students can be creative, curious and connected.
In the newsletter this week, we focus on Visual Art and if you have visited the office block this week, you might have noticed the amazing art works that our students have created this term.
Visual art plays a vital role in primary education by nurturing creativity, imagination, and self-expression. Through drawing, painting, and creating, students are given opportunities to communicate their ideas and emotions in ways that words alone cannot capture. Visual art also supports the development of fine motor skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking as students experiment with different materials and techniques. Importantly, it builds confidence and a sense of achievement, as every child can experience success in their own unique way. At primary school, visual art enriches learning across all areas, encouraging curiosity, cultural awareness, and a deeper connection to the world around them.
Thank you to Ebony Killmister and Sarah Leach for running such an awesome art program across all year levels of our school.

This term we have been continuing our whole school focus on the High Impact Learner Agency Trait of “Being Persistent”.
Being persistent means showing determination, staying focused on a goal, and not giving up when faced with obstacles. At school, this might look like a student trying a difficult maths problem more than once, revising their writing to improve it, or continuing to practise a new skill even when it doesn’t come easily at first.
For some students, particularly those who may be at risk, learning challenges can sometimes lead to self-defeating behaviours such as avoiding tasks, giving up quickly, or believing they are “not good” at something. These patterns can create setbacks and reinforce a cycle of frustration. By explicitly teaching and encouraging persistence, we can help students recognise that effort, practice, and perseverance are key ingredients for growth and improvement.
When students begin to develop persistence, they start to push beyond their perceived limitations. They learn that mistakes are part of the learning process and that progress often comes from trying again with a new strategy. Over time, this builds confidence and helps shift their mindset from one of doubt to one of possibility.
At Greenhills Primary, we are committed to supporting all students to build this important capability. By celebrating effort, providing encouragement, and creating opportunities for success, we aim to help every child experience a positive cycle of “success upon success,” where persistence leads to achievement and a growing belief in their own ability to succeed.
Greenhills Primary School continues our long and proud history of music excellence, and particularly our choral program. Earlier this term, our School Choir commenced for 2026. We are fortunate to again have Stephen Valeri employed as our Choir Director. Stephen brings a wealth of professional experience having been in many professional productions and a vast teaching background as well.
The choir is open to students in Years 3-6 and rehearsals are Wednesday mornings from 8am in the Performing Arts room. We look forward to their first performance next term.
Another GREAT tradition at Greenhills is our End of Term BBQ’s. Come along this Friday from 3.30pm and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and catch up with other parents and carers. There will of course be sausages and drinks for sale thanks to our Parent Association team. All the money raised at this event will support the purchase of home reading materials.
Each ANZAC Day, the Greensborough RSL Sub-Branch invite our school to attend the ANZAC Day Memorial Service on the 25th of April. The Service will be held at the Greensborough War memorial Park, 203 Henry Street, Greensborough commencing at 9.15am and concluding around 10am. This year our school will also be involved in the march to the service. This starts at 8.45am from outside the Greensborough RSL. If your family is attending, it would be GREAT for them to wear Greenhills School uniform as a mark of respect. Those students who attend will also be able to lay a wreath on behalf of our school community.
Our last day of this term is Thursday 2nd April. We will hold an assembly at 1.50pm and students will finish school at 2.30pm.
The first day for students in Term 2 is Monday 20th April.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
My “Question Prompt for This Week” focuses on “Reflection”.
What is one way you have grown as a learner this term?
