Foundation

It was lovely to see the students return to school after the holidays and are extremely impressed with how well they have settled into their daily routines. The students were excited to see all their friends and the new investigation areas which have been designed around this terms subject focus of ‘Geography.’ They have enjoyed investigating in the airport, airplane and travel areas.  

HOME READING

Last week, Foundation students began to take home readers as well as a parent information letter explaining how to undertake reading at home. It is important that you continue to read with your child each night. Students will change their readers daily with the classroom teacher through Literacy sessions. Students should now be taking home two readers each day; one familiar and one new. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Each week, all Foundation classes will celebrate one student from each class who is their Pupil of the Week. Congratulations to the following students:

Literacy 

Students are learning about: 

• The letters and sounds ‘f’ ‘k’ ‘o’ 
• Reading and writing CVC words 
• Identifying words and letters 
• During writing, the students are learning how to identify the ‘who, action and object’ within a sentence. They are also learning how to write words and describe characters.  

Mathematics 

Students are learning about: 

• Location – identifying the position of objects using the language right, left, beside, behind, in front. 
• Part-whole- Combining, partitioning, part-part-whole, properties of addition, separation
