John 10:11-18
The good shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep
In this passage from the Gospel of John (10:11–18), Jesus describes himself as the “Good Shepherd.” He explains that a good shepherd truly cares for the sheep and is willing to lay down his life to protect them. Jesus speaks of his deep relationship with his followers—he knows them, and they know him, just as he knows the Father.
He also reminds us that his care extends beyond just one group, saying that he has other sheep who will also hear his voice, pointing to his mission of gathering all people into one community. Ultimately, Jesus emphasises that his life is given freely out of love, and that he has the power to lay it down and take it up again.
This passage invites us to trust in Jesus’ constant care, to listen for his voice in our lives, and to follow his example of love, courage, and selflessness.
REFLECTION PRAYER
Loving God,
We thank you for the gift of Jesus, our Good Shepherd,
who knows each of us by name and cares for us with great love.
Help us to listen for your voice in our hearts each day,
guiding us to make kind and caring choices.
Teach us to look after one another,
just as a shepherd cares for every sheep in the flock.
May we be people of courage and compassion,
willing to stand up for others and show love in our words and actions.
Bring our school community together as one,
united in faith, hope, and love.
We ask this through Jesus, our Good Shepherd.
Amen.

TERM 2 STUDENT AWARDS
At St Liborius, we celebrate students who demonstrate the characteristics of our founders. These awards are not just about what students do, but also about who they are and how they treat others.
We are guided by our founders: Catherine McAuley, Mary MacKillop, and St Francis of Assisi, along with Henry Backhaus who helped build our local Catholic community. They showed kindness, courage, and care for others, and we try to follow their example every day at school.
The recipient of the term 2 awards demonstrated the attributes shown by St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
- Seeing a need and doing something about it.
- Persistence with something, not giving up when a task gets hard.
- Trying their best.
- Taking on challenges
