It has been a tremendous start to Term 2! We welcomed the term with our Athletics Carnival in Week 1 on Wednesday 2nd April at Moonee Valley Athletics Centre (Aberfeldie). The track was a sea of colours as students tried hard to earn house points for their teams. The Year Prep to 2 students engaged in minor tabloid sport games, while the Year 3 to 6 students competed in traditional track and field events. We have some incredible athletes at Dinjerra! I was so proud of all of our students from Prep to 6, for showing grit, determination and great sportsmanship across the whole day.
Our Year 6 House Captains led their houses with great spirit and motivation. Congratulations to Goolagong House (Green) for earning the House Cup this year. Here are the standing totals of House Points:

We have made a great start to fundraising for the start of the year. Here are the total profit figures so far:
Total Profit so far: $10,727
Our next fundraiser is our Mother’s Day / Special Person’s Day Stall. Thanks to Marta Rodrigues for organising.
Our School Council is keen for a new type of fundraiser for 2026 - a Trivia Night! We are looking at a Term 3 timeline. The event would be for adults only. If you are keen to join the Trivia Night organising committee, please let me know. via natalie.vulic@education.vic.gov.au.

I would like to share an update with you. Over the last few weeks, the students have enjoyed watching the diggers excavate the dirt in the area where the new turf will go. There were many boulders that were excavated from the ground. We are lucky that we could keep these rocks, which have now been placed at the rear of the oval. The students have already enjoyed playing on these. One of the boulders was the biggest that the contractors had ever excavated! It couldn't be lifted with the digger, it had to be rolled to its new position. The soil was the hardest that they had ever worked with and at times, the digger barrel couldn't be used, they had to use a pick and scratch the surface.
The next stage which will be for approximately 2 weeks. This will include making spoon drains around the perimeter of the area and having the hole filled with Class A soil. The final stage will include the laying of the new turf. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
I am pleased at how resilient the students have been, in finding new things to do at recess and lunch. We have some lunch clubs organised that some of the students attend. These are:
