Year 10 WRS Students Making a Difference Around Westall

Every Friday, the Year 10 Work-Related Skills (WRS) class takes part in a hands-on program that helps improve our school community. Throughout the session, we complete a range of jobs around the school that are requested by Westall teachers and staff.

You may have seen us wearing our High Vis vests and clipboards while working around the school grounds. The vests help teachers and students recognise that we are completing jobs and allow us to move around the school independently while working.

The aim of this program is to help clean up and improve the school environment while supporting teachers with tasks they may not have enough time to complete. By contributing to the school in a positive way, we are helping create a better environment for everyone to enjoy.

Some of the jobs we complete include organising learning spaces, cleaning areas around the school, setting up equipment, and helping with general maintenance tasks.

This program has also helped us develop important workplace and life skills, including:

  • Learning how to clean and complete jobs correctly

  • Managing our time effectively

  • Working efficiently within set timeframes

  • Communicating and cooperating as a team

  • Taking responsibility and showing initiative

The WRS program gives us practical experience and helps prepare us for future workplaces by teaching us the importance of teamwork, reliability, and pride in our work. We are proud to be helping make a positive difference around the school each week.

Year 10 Work Experience

Our Year 10 students recently completed their Work Experience placements across a wide range of industries, including trades, hospitality, childcare, retail, health, business and more. It was fantastic to see students stepping outside of their comfort zones, building confidence, and gaining valuable insight into the world of work.

Many employers praised our students for their positive attitudes, willingness to learn, and professionalism throughout the week. Overall, the program was a great success and provided students with an important opportunity to explore future career pathways and develop real-world skills.
