Principal News

Dear Families,
A very warm welcome back to school! It has been such a joy to see our classrooms and playgrounds filled with energy again. Walking around the grounds this week, it is clear that everyone has grown just a little bit taller over the break. I truly hope you all had a wonderful time with your children. Moments to rest and recharge as a family are so precious, and they certainly show in the bright, refreshed faces we've seen at the gate.
We are blessed to welcome some new faces to our staff community this term:
In Year 5M, a big welcome to Miss Darcie Bull, who joins the Year 5 team for this term. We are thrilled to announce that our fourth specialist subject for this year will be STEM & Sustainability. We are excited to introduce Miss Lola Allen as our new specialist teacher. Lola will be inspiring our students through our STEM and Sustainability programs, helping us live out our mission to care for God's creation, using our beautiful STEM learning area and her skills with a Bachelor of Nutrition Science, and Exercise and Sport Science, expertise will come to the forefront.
We congratulate Mrs Bohannon (Miss Donnelly) and her husband Mark for their recent marriage. The New Zealand setting was superb! We had fun celebrating with a special morning tea on Monday.
Student-Led Assemblies
Sacred Heart assemblies are a special time for us to gather as a community, and it is always lovely having so many families join us. Starting this term, these sessions are student-led, and in my recent meetings with the Year Six students, their enthusiasm for leadership has been inspiring. We would love for you to join us and share in this time. We were really proud of Lucy and Jesse for being our first official hosts this morning. We met on Wednesday afternoon to plan for the assembly and practice hosting. It was an absolute delight working with them.
ANZAC Liturgy
We congratulate and thank Miss Maloney together with the Year 6 Social Justice Leaders; Laura, Max, Grace and Taj for leading our moving and respectful ANZAC liturgy this morning. As a reminder, tomorrow is a public holiday, and please see memorials in our area, if you and your family would like to attend.

Green Point Cenotaph
On 23 July 1922, Brighton City Council designated Green Point, Brighton Beach, as the site for a war memorial. Designs were sought from returned soldier architects, and 18 were received. The first prize of £30 was awarded to the architecture firm Irwin and Stevenson. The bronze casting, using lost wax technique, was executed by sculptor Mr. Paul Montford, and the central assemblage is believed to have been the largest bronze casting in relief carried out in Australia at the time.
The Brighton War Memorial was unveiled by His Excellency the Governor, the Right Honourable Arthur Herbert Tennyson Baron Somers, KCMG, DSO, MC, on Sunday 24 April 1927 in the presence of 4,000 people.
The Brighton War Memorial was originally constructed to commemorate those from the City of Brighton who served in World War I but has since been augmented to commemorate those from the municipality of Bayside who have lost their lives during official periods of hostility.
Sacred Heart Term Two Sport
There is plenty of movement happening this term! We congratulate our diver Annabelle for placing 2nd in Regionals and then 4th at State Level. We look forward to following your diving journey.
Run Club
It’s great to see so many students and parents joining us for the morning run to the beach. This morning was glorious with the sun shining and the water on the bay glistening. This is a great way to build fitness for our Dendy Cross Country on Thursday 30th April and keep ourselves healthy for Winter. We thank Mr Jaynes and Miss Bulte, with other staff rotating through to enable these weekly runs for our Sacred Heart Community.
Winter Sport
Good luck to our Year 5and 6 students as they begin their Winter Sport season, playing netball and football with other schools in our area on Friday afternoons. These matches are to enjoy playing football or netball, learn the rules, play new positions and meet students from other schools. We thank Mr Jaynes for organising these sessions and to the Year 5 and 6 staff for coaching and umpiring. If any parents are available to umpire, please let Mr Jaynes know.
Year 3 Sacrament of Reconciliation
We pray for our Year 3 students as they prepare to celebrate this Sacrament with our Year 3 on Friday, May 1st at 10:00 am, in the Church. Parents are warmly invited to join us afterwards for a cup of tea or coffee in the STEM room.
Sport Jersey Designs for Reconciliation with First Nations People
Please enjoy these designs from Art with Ms Gray.
Child Safe Standard 3
Children and young people are empowered about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them and are taken seriously. At Sacred Heart this can be seen in the relationships staff have with our students, and many informal moments for children can give feedback and be heard. Our student-led assemblies, and this term we will be starting our Student Representative Council for students from Prep to Year 5, are examples of Child Safe Standard 3. There will be more about this during the term.
Around the grounds
Over the holidays Steve, our Maintenance Officer, has been hard at work creating a new mud kitchen, with a few more surprise elements on their way. It has been a hive of activity. We continue to love our new playground and it is lovely to be enjoying play time in this glorious weather.
We also have Brendan and Micheal marking out our new garden bed at the front of the school. We thank them so much for sharing their passion and expertise with the community.
Ballout Charity Event
Last Sunday, Sacred Heart parents laced up for ‘Ballout’, a charity basketball event in support of TeamSports4All - an organisation dedicated to helping children from financially disadvantaged families access and stay involved in local team sport.
In all, 52 participants from four schools (Sacred Heart, Beaumaris North, Haileybury and Mentone Grammar) came together with one shared purpose: to help more kids get into the game.
Sacred Heart performed strongly on the court, progressing to the semi-finals, while Haileybury ultimately claimed the win.
The event raised just under $4,000, an encouraging result for its first year and a strong foundation to build on.
A great day, a worthy cause, and a powerful example of community in action. Here’s to an even bigger and better Ballout in 2027!
Celebrate Learning
We have had many excited visitors this week. Look at our proud Preps and their sentences.
