Work Skills Program

Many of our Year 11 and 12 students have been keeping busy in the exam break by taking part in a range of valuable workplace skills programs and practical training opportunities.

Senior First Aid

On Thursday, 28 May, students participated in a Senior First Aid course. The session provided students with valuable practical skills and knowledge that can be used in emergency situations at school, work, and in the wider community.

Students learned about important first aid responses, including assessing an emergency, providing basic care, and responding calmly and confidently when help is needed. It was a great opportunity for students to develop life skills that are not only useful for future employment but also important in everyday situations.

RAC Workshop

On Tuesday, 2 June, our Year 11 and 12 students also took part in an RAC workshop focused on safe driving and buying a car. The session gave students practical advice on road safety, making informed vehicle purchase decisions, and understanding the responsibilities that come with being a young driver.

Barista Training:

On Wednesday, 3 June, two groups of Year 11 and 12 students took part in a training course at Barista HQ in Nedlands as part of Lumen Christi College’s Work Skills programs. Our students enjoyed the opportunity to learn professional-standard barista skills and earn a qualification that prepares them for a job in the café industry. Many delicious short macchiatos, hot chocolates, lattes, and other hot drinks were created and enjoyed by the two groups!

White Card Training

Our Year 11 and 12 students participated in White Card training on Thursday, 4 June, gaining an important introduction to workplace health and safety in the construction industry. The training helped students understand safe work practices, hazard awareness, and the responsibilities required when entering a worksite.

Financial Literacy

Finally, on Friday, 5 June, students participated in a Financial Literacy workshop, learning practical skills to help them make informed financial decisions. The session covered important topics such as budgeting, saving, managing expenses, superannuation, tax, and understanding financial responsibilities as they prepare for life beyond school.

All these opportunities have provided students with hands-on experience in areas highly relevant to work, further study, and everyday life.

It has been fantastic to see so many students engage positively with these opportunities and take active steps towards preparing for life after school.
