Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week

During National Reconciliation Week from 27 May – 3 June, our school community took time to reflect, learn and come together. This year’s theme, “All In,” encouraged everyone to actively contribute to reconciliation and foster stronger relationships, understanding and respect.
On National Sorry Day, May 26, the whole school gathered for a Flag Raising Ceremony, which included a Smoking Ceremony and morning tea for invited guests. Thank you to everyone who attended, and especially to alumnus Brandon Jansen for playing the Yidaki (Didgeridoo) and leading our First Nations students in a traditional dance performance.
Throughout the week, our First Nations students visited the Kings Park Memorial Gardens to honour Indigenous servicemen and women, learning about their contributions and reflecting during a bushwalk. Students also participated in traditional dance lessons as part of the Cultural Program.
Our First Nations Education Assistants and Liaison Officer hosted bracelet-making activities, reflection opportunities and competitions, encouraging the wider school community to engage with the spirit of reconciliation.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to making National Reconciliation Week a meaningful and memorable experience.
Kirsten Cox
First Nations Liason Officer
