Hamilton Eisteddfod
What a fantastic day at the Hamilton Eisteddfod yesterday!
I was incredibly proud of our Cavendish students and the resilience they demonstrated throughout the day. Performing on stage can be daunting, and I knew many of our students were feeling nervous. Despite this, they stepped up, put their best foot forward and gave every performance their all. One of the main benefits of participating in this event is that children discover that quiet confidence and can build on their intrinsic self-esteem. Just awesome.
One thing I love about Cavendish is that we don't just dip our toes in the water, we jump right in! While some schools choose to participate in just one section, I challenge our students to make the most of every opportunity and perform across multiple sections. It takes courage, commitment and teamwork, and once again our students rose to the occasion.
Although our efforts were not reflected in ribbons and trophies this time, I couldn't be prouder of what our students achieved. To bring together children from Prep to Year 6 and have them perform as one choir, to sing as one voice, move together as an ensemble and support one another on stage, is an incredibly difficult task. Yet our students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, energy and rhythm.
In fact, following the performances, the adjudicator sought me out personally to share how impressed he was with our students. He spoke highly of their performances and acknowledged just how difficult it can be to award only a handful of places when so many students demonstrate such talent, effort and potential.
At the end of the day, performing arts is about so much more than certificates and trophies. It is about igniting a passion, developing confidence, resilience, teamwork and a willingness to challenge yourself. Our students demonstrated all of these qualities in abundance.
Keep striving, Cavendish. Your courage, spirit and determination make me proud to be your conductor and your teacher every time you step onto the stage.
Choir
What's next for our fabulous choir?! We've got the energy, we've got the rhythm, let's work on our pitch!
Lots of exciting opportunities wait for us just around the corner, stay tuned...
Drama, Poetry & Film!
What an exciting weekend ahead for our talented Performing Arts students!
A huge good luck to Toby, Will, Sienna, Ivy and Maddie as they attend the world premiere screening of their short films at the Hamilton Eisteddfod tonight. I am incredibly proud of these students for embracing this brand-new opportunity in its inaugural year. It takes courage to put your creative work out into the world, and they have certainly risen to the challenge!
I am looking forward to joining them tonight and hearing the feedback from film adjudicator Gareth Colliton from One Day Studios in Warrnambool. One Day Studios offers some fantastic creative opportunities for young people, including after school classes and holiday workshops in illustration, animation, filmmaking and more. If your child has a passion for creativity, they are well worth exploring.
If you would like to support our budding film directors, camera operators and actors, the evening session begins at 6:30pm.
On Saturday morning, we wish Evie Gilchrist all the very best as she performs her poetry solo. Evie has embraced the challenge of performing as a soloist and will take to the stage for her second Hamilton Eisteddfod appearance. To achieve this in only her second year of primary school is absolutely phenomenal. Congratulations, Evie, and enjoy every moment on stage!
Following Evie's performance, our Drama Ensemble will step into the spotlight. Six brave performers will bring their characters to life with confidence, creativity and plenty of stage presence. Remember our rehearsal mantra: Think loud, think big, think slow!
Good luck to Toby, Max, Maddie, Sienna, Ivy and Edith as they take to the stage.
A reminder that all Speech and Drama students are required to be at the HPAC by 9:30am on Saturday morning.
Break a leg, everyone! We are incredibly proud of your hard work, courage and commitment to the performing arts.
Community Involvement - Calling All Unused Instruments! 🎶🥁
Do you have any spare percussion instruments or musical treasures tucked away at home gathering dust? We would love to give them a new life in our Performing Arts classroom!
Whether it’s tambourines, shakers, drums, triangles, maracas, ukuleles, keyboards, or other instruments no longer being used, they could become a wonderful resource for our students’ musical learning and creativity.
If you have instruments looking for a new home, please drop them into the school office — your donation could help inspire our next generation of performers and musicians!
Thank you for helping us keep the music playing!
Warm regards,
Mrs Huf
