Notes from the Principal

Thank You
Our school community would like to extend a massive thanks to all of those who donated time and services to renovate the school dam and cleanup in the pine plantation paddock.
- J & L Young - Eulong
- Bushy Park Angus
- Huf Builders
- Cavendish community members, including members from the Townscape Committee
Not only have you provided a priceless resource for our school, but an extra level of bushfire protection for our town.
Thank you.
Book Club
New Book Club catalogues have gone home with the students. Orders will need to be completed online by 11th June 2026.
Upgrades to School/Equipment Purchases
In the June holidays the school will be getting a facelift with some new carpet tiles throughout the classrooms and foyer area. If anyone needs some old carpet for a shed, please come and help yourself.
We have also purchased two new chairs to brighten up the foyer area. The storage room (old science room) is almost completed. We are waiting for the laminate bench tops to be installed.
We have also acquitted our Stephanie Alexander Trust Kitchen Garden grant. We purchased new garden beds and cooking equipment.
Kitchen Garden
Scarecrow building is on the agenda for next week. Thanks to those who have donated clothing. We now have enough. I am looking forward to seeing these garden guardians. Hopefully they don't scare the chooks off the lay! Kitchen Garden classes will be taught by Miss P for the rest of this term while Mrs Bell recovers from her hip surgery. We hope you are recovering well Mrs Bell and that John and the family are looking after you. Hope to see you up and about soon.
National Simultaneous Storytime
On Wednesday 27th June, all students (supervised by Mrs Huf, Miss P, Barb and Renee) walked to the Cavendish Kindergarten to join in for National Simultaneous Storytime. At 12pm, schools and education centres across Australia read Luna Roo the Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson and Arian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake A Minton.
Merryn was the storyteller, and then everyone had lunch together. Our students also performed their Eisteddfod items for the Kindergarten audience.
National Reconciliation Week
National Reconciliation Week ran from Wednesday 27th May to Wednesday 3rd June this year. We recognised the importance of Reconciliation by taking part in discussions and activities about Indigenous Australian culture and history, and the theme “All In”. We talked about what the term “reconciliation” means, and how it relates to our school value – Unity. We also talked about how, once we make an apology, we work toward repairing relationships, acknowledging past harm and looking forward to the future.
Hamilton Eisteddfod
Many thanks to Mrs Rachel Huf for her dedication to preparing our students to perform at the Hamilton Eisteddfod 2026. Not only did she prepare our choir and instrumental numbers, she also volunteered to support students to enter digital recordings “Movies” and any student who wished to enter the speech and drama section over the weekend.
We are very grateful to have such a dedicated educator at our school.
The students, as usual, gave 100% effort to their performance and showed their RED GUM values throughout the day. We received two highly commended awards for our choir, and one for our instrumental performance. I believe, if there was a people’s choice award, we would have that one in the bag!
Thanks to our support network for coming along to watch and cheer or help transport instruments. You make our staff and students feel truly supported.
Auskick
We have 13 Auskickers joining us every Tuesday at 3:45pm until the end of term 2! That means they have a 1 in 13 chance of winning the signed Geelong Cats jersey. Registrations are still open if your kids are keen.
Digital Technology Agreement
If you are yet to return your child's signed Digital Technology Agreement, please get it back to school next week.
