Welcome to Week 6!
The ‘Cold Write’: THE ULTIMATE WAY TO GET SCHOOL!
Recently, our young people participated in a ‘Cold Write’ assessment during Week 4. This task allows us to see how students apply their writing skills independently without prior preparation.
Persuade the Reader: The task was to write a persuasive text that convinces the reader which method of travelling to school (e.g., bus, car, bike, or walking) is the absolute best. Their goal was to write a convincing text that stated their opinion on which method of travel - whether it is by bus, car, bicycle, or walking - is the absolute best. We were looking for:
planning
structure of their arguments into clear paragraphs with an introduction, supporting reasons and a strong conclusion.
impactful words to sway their reader
Stage 2 and 3 students have been focusing on editing and "uplevelling" their work by polishing their spelling, punctuation, and grammar. We are very proud of our young people and their writing responses. They should be very proud of their efforts.
Organic Learning: CREATE Phase!
Engaging Theme: Exploring how historical inventions and modern technologies have shaped society, solved problems, and transformed daily life, with a focus on design thinking, digital systems, and the ethical use of innovation.
During Week 5, we completed the 'Connect' Phase and engaged in activities that reinforced our learning from the 'Explore' Phase. Our young people thoroughly enjoyed deep diving into the Term 2 outcomes and content to assist with their planning and ideas for their upcoming project. They have formed groups with similar ideas and are required to develop their idea and receive peer and adult feedback before getting the 'green light' to begin their research and project. We are so excited to see the 'Create' Phase unfold and creativity flourish.
SRC Leadership Team
The SRC Leadership team have already shown commitment and responsibility by attending meetings to discuss events and goals for Term 2. The SRC will organise a range of activities for this Friday 29th May (Catholic School Week celebration). They shared opinions and ideas on what a great afternoon looked like and were able to put a plan into place.
SRC Leaders have also worked together to create a whole school term reward for our 'I shine' reward certificates. Our 'I shine' awards reflect our 'Living Well Learning Well' system and our young people have taken ownership of this which is fabulous to see.
They have proposed a 'School Disco' for the end of term reward, however the school must achieve 300 'I shine' cards! If our young people achieve this, we will be holding this event at the beginning of Term 3.
