From our Year 1/2 Classrooms

Year 1/2 Learning Update
The last few weeks have been exciting for all of us in the Year 1/2 community as students have been exploring procedures and learning how to explain how to do something clearly and in the correct order.
Our learning has connected closely with both Science and Digital Technologies. In Science, students have been investigating Chemical and Physical Changes, identifying different materials, and exploring the properties of materials.
Students have enjoyed making predictions, observing changes, and discussing what happens during experiments and investigations.
To support their understanding, students have participated in a range of hands on learning experiences in the classroom. Some of these experiences included:
- Making magic milk
- Creating masks
- Making toast
These engaging activities helped students learn how to follow instructions step by step while building their vocabulary and oral language skills.
Students then used these experiences to help them write their own procedures using sequencing words such as first, next, then and finally.
In Mathematics, students have also been developing their understanding of addition and subtraction using physical materials and part part whole strategies.
Students have been working with two digit numbers and using hands on resources to explain their mathematical thinking and solve problems.
It has been wonderful to see students building confidence in explaining their thinking, following instructions, and working collaboratively during these learning experiences.
We are very proud of the enthusiasm and effort students have shown throughout their learning.
