Pentecost Sunday

Sunday 24th of May

Pentecost is one of the great celebrations of the Church and marks the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples. Celebrated fifty days after Easter, Pentecost is often known as the “birthday of the Church” because it was through the courage and guidance of the Holy Spirit that the disciples began sharing the message of Jesus with the world. The liturgical colour for Pentecost is red, symbolising the flames of fire that rested upon the disciples and the power, strength and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives today.

We also congratulate our Year 5/6 students who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation last Thursday. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide and strengthen them as they grow in faith and live out the gifts they have received.

The Year 3/4 students have been learning about the Resurrection, the Ascension and Pentecost. As part of their learning, they listened to the story of Pentecost through a Godly Play presentation.

The students then responded to the story in a prayerful and reflective way, choosing a format that was meaningful to them. Some created drawings or symbols, others wrote reflections, and some reenacted  the story using the Godly Play objects.

It was wonderful to see the different ways students connected with the story. Their thoughtful responses showed careful listening and a growing understanding of this important event in the life of the Church.
